Question about i30 Suspension...

Does anyone have any detailed knowledge of the stock shocks/struts on the i30 vs. the i30t? I know the Touring edition has a "sports tuned suspension" but does that apply to anything other than the spring rate and rims? Do they have more durable struts? I'm asking because I have a non-touring sedan and I'm contemplating dropping it 1.5" in the front and rear with Ground Control Coilovers on stock struts and I want to assess the risk for decreased strut life expectancy. Thanks in advance.

Don't use drop springs on stock struts especially with coilovers, it will ride like shat. The T is just different wheels, option loaded, with stiffer spring rates. Buy spring and shock combo and if needed strut mounts and camber plates, do some research.

The "sport" suspension on t is stiffer rear springs... everything else is the same. If you are thinking about dropping it on stock struts, think again... they will NOT hold up.

Commonsense argees with you gentlemen, as do I. Guess I'm gonna sit on these Ground Control coilovers til I can afford a set of Tokico Illuminas...

agreed^

If all your looking for is a 1.5' drop and you would like to maintain a nice ride, then go with a quailty set of springs like Tokico or Tien combined with some Tokico Illuminas.

Is there something wrong with Ground Control springs on Tokico struts? I have not seen anyone with this setup, but I got a pretty good deal on it, so I think I'm gonna go ahead and use them. Thoughts, opinions?

They ride really harsh, and if not tuned properly will ruin your handling. Much cheaper (amd better!) to sell them and get Tein H-tech springs and use Tokico Illumina struts, or to get a full Illumina Spring and Strut combo from the start.

Interesting, wish I knew this before I purchased them. However, my current budget is stretched a bit thin for extensive car modifying so I do not think I will be selling the springs unless I find compelling evidence to. Anyone got experience with Ground Control/KYB AGX combo?

Yes. Even more harsh.

Has anyone taken the cheap way out and just cut their springs to lower their ride? Come on, fess up! Let me know if I can get away with it until I save up for coilovers...

Yes, people have. Do not do it. If you read the 4th generation stickies, you would know that. Normally, that sort of nonsense is avoided in this part of the forum.

Why are you so stuck on coilovers? Buy what you want, but on NYC roads, you will hate how harsh coilovers ride. Get a mild spring (like H&R or Tein H-Techs) on a set of Tokico struts (either the Illuminas or HPs) and be done with it.

If you don't know that cutting springs is bad, then you have NO business trying to set and tune coilovers.
