Gas stations use a winter mix of gas starting in October/November. It's easier to ignite at colder temperatures (I believe) but is not as efficient as the blends used in summer.
Also, people tend to let their cars warm up more often which obviously burns more fuel.

You are also using the heat and defrost almost constantly. The defrost uses the ac compressor to take the moisture out of the air. AND in my case I tend to spin my tires alot and do slides etc. in the slippery conditions.

I know I get really bad gas mileage in the winter. Winter = Performance mods and cold air = I drive harder and faster for some reason. Car feels like a totally different beast in the winter with my modifications
