Tranny jolting?
Tranny jolting?
Hey guys my 01' I30t is having tranny problems. When I do semi-aggressive to aggressive acceleration from a stop, going from 1st to 2nd gear (i think), it jolts the car. If you let off the gas during 1st gear it jolts harder. It comes and goes, but primarily when the car is first started. Lately it's been getting worse and it's starting to worry me. Any ideas? Is it that resistor problem with the tranny valve? I need a solution and I hope hope hope my tranny isn't going out.
Thanks!
ps... Is this covered under the powertrain warranty, too? I *think* its 72mos 70kmiles or something like that, and im at 6yrs 59k miles.
Thanks!

Why do you hope your tranny isn't going? I beleive bumper-bumper is 60k and powertrain is 70k. They will probably change your fluid first and scan for any transmission codes.
Put it in service. They took 3 days just to figure it out, it wasn't the transmission. They were wondering for a while if it was the exhaust (how??) or maybe something else. So I get a call from my dad about it the next day and it seems it was the engine mounts. I call them up and apparently the electronic (??) engine mounts had worn out causing the engine to torque in the engine bay and slam down after shifting out of first, causing the gigantic jolt I felt after any moderate to hard acceleration. $694.70....ouch.
I got my dad to talk to them and drop it to $494.72 and I got my car back. It seems almost like a new car now, it shifts cleaner, and feels like more power is being transferred to the ground.

WOW, I know my car is not the same year as yours, but I have the very same problem in my 96 I30. It only last for about 10 to 15 minutes after first starting the car up, but between 1st and 2nd gear there is a pretty big jolt when I apply moderate gas or more. I thought it was my tranny as well.
Do you think it could be my motor mounts instead????

My 88 maxima is Starting to do that now , since i was messing with the Throttle body , And for some odd reason , It goes all the way to 7 k rpm , and SHIFTS like boom , Not a useUal shift like right when it shifts its done , Like boom Say boom the fastest you can and thats how fast it shifts in to 2nd and out of 2nd , And it makes like a weird sound you hear on a car when your hitting the Soild redline , And you shift my car is a auto matic.

Actually it's an 01' that I bought in Sept 00, so it's not 6 years old yet. And as i said in that thread, it was the engine mounts that went out.. $500. The jolting was the engine slamming back into the engine bay after shift. It was torquing.
Yeah mines doing Chriping and jolting and I think its sliping , Im thinking its the transmission , If im in over drive at 75 mph opening the throttle any more the car will just act like i am in park reving the engine ...... Its a ***** but i only bought the car for 1000 put over 2000 in fixing it , think i should go thru the route of Replacing the transmission?

The car has 67k miles, and the dealer did change one motor mount late last year at no charge. I do not know which one, I'll have to look it up. I would think if one went bad, the others are just as likely. Records show the previous owner had the tranny fluid replaced at 60k.
Thanks for the post, something for me check on...

Fast forward 3 months and my car was still jolting hard from 1-2 on occasion, some times every shift, sometimes not at all. I took it in AGAIN and told them it was still doing what I had paid $500 to be fixed earlier. I get a call and tehy tell me that they can't find any faults. I tell them there is something DEFINITELY wrong with the car, it jolts so hard from 1-2 that the seatbelt helps me not fly out of my seat.
They tell me they'll take it out driving some more to see if there really is a problem. I get a call the next morning telling me that they did reproduce the problem and that it is the transmission control solenoid (or something like that). "It's a big job" they said, "$1500" they said. I was like OMFG, thats a ton of money and I JUST had them 'fix' the so-called problem last time. I had my dad go in (he works in the same dealership, just next door) and talk to them about how it should have been fixed last time and that we shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes.
Well I get a phone call 2 minutes later from the service manager and they tell me they're going to fix it under the powertrain warranty. They replace the solenoid and TCM, along with all the bolts etc, and do a tranny flush (I JUST paid $75 for that 3 weeks ago!). It drives like a new car. I can't remember the last time the transmission was so smooth and revved so fast.
I hope it lasts!
