My muffler EXPLODED!!
Hummm, that weird hissing sound coming from the tail-pipe under load must be a weird effect of the y-pipe. Hummm, cruising at 80mph down the highway---hey, did it just get worse?? humm, let me stab the throttle a few times............BANG It was so violent it felt like the car was going to lose control.
That looks like the White 96 to me.
That is pretty crazy though. Was there something blocking the exhaust exit? Looks like the weld just rusted out, started leaking, and then the whole seam just gave.
I didnt think there was that much pressure in there.

I'm going to check it out a little more once it's off the car, but I suspect rust clogged it up, there was deffinitly excessive pressure in there, that's why I was hearing a loud hiss under heavy load.
Damn shizzle that must have scared all form or reason out of yu well guess what yu have to do now "CATBACK" or yu can be like us and get a fifth gen muffler

I think I'll try to get a 5th Gen muffler from the junkyard for like $15.
There is more going on here, word on the streets is that it was caused by fuel vapors building up inside the muffler, makes sense, because today my clutch was finally broken in so I ripped through the gears and saw a few little puffs of fuel vapors behind me. But it doesn't really explain the hissing. I'm having another problem, hard starts, that 4 other 5-speed 4th gen owners are currently having immediatly following removal of the transmission. I'm off to tell them about this.

Are you throwing and CEL's for an O2 or anything? Maybe if you were running really rich the exhaust gasses could ignite in your clogged muffler. The hiss and rust definitely point towards an exhaust leak, but maybe it was a combination.
I'd just get a new rear section and scan for codes even if you dont have a CEL.

oem or not, an oem one could have exploded as well, it was caused by fuel vapors building up inside.
Here's the problem me and several others are having after removing tranny

thats what i think happened cuz the same thing haappens on jgtc cars but with no explosion just a fireball but it could of fireballtd too close to the inlet muffler and the rust, wow i wonder what all the ppl on the highway musta thought.....
I have a nice quiet almost oem tone stainless 3A racing oval shaped thick wall 4" tip, I had on my 1996 I30. I have pics on car and off, but used some other hagers so you would need to weld a hager(s) for oem spots. If you want it say $45 or so I can send pics to email and meet you somewhere.

I fixed the hard starts actually, just bought a couple 6-gauge battery cables for lawn mowers from walmart and ran one to a bell housing bolt, one to a starter bolt, and bolted the other ends to the chassis ground underneath the battery tray, but I think I might replace the cts anyways since alot of people have had trouble with them and it can't be to expensive, where abouts is the efi cts located?

I would never put a 4" tip on my infiniti, it's not a honda, plus come summer-time it won't be a 3.0 anymore, and I don't want anyone to know that it's a 13 second drag monster. Thanks for the offer though.

Yes I'm doing it myself, motors are cheap for new cars, theres not to much of a market for them, I've found tons of 3.5's w/under 40k for $800-$1000

Holy Shat! How in the hell did that happen?! What happened after it blew? I assume our exhaust is really loud now.
