does anybody have a link to a step by step how to on removing the headunit on a 00 I30? thanks in advance.

Go to the Audio Section. Look through the FAQs. It's virtually identical to the 5th gen max.

No, it really isn't. I've been having a helluva time myself, and I've probably broken the ash tray since it no longer slides out itself. I don't see how i'm supposed to remove the ash tray, since there is no screws underneath the removable piece.

Odd, since I've removed mine a half dozen times, using the 5th gen method...

There's really nothing different at all.

exactly what i was thinking when i was looking for that screw in the ashtray. i havent tried to take anything out just because i dont want to break anything.

first you have to remove the trim panel where you change gears, take a screwdriver and pry out the panel.

Okay, I did it this weekend this way. You don't have to remove the ash tray, just move the shifter into low gear and pry up the "woodgrain" surround. Then pull out the air vents above the CD player, and there is 4 screws holding it all together. 2 are up top, 2 are at the bottom.

That link is to a different generation I30.
