Heated Seat Switches

I'm relitively new to the site but I love it, and i had a question that I was hoping you guys could help me out with. I have a 01 I30 with heated seats and I was wondering if the switches were suppose to light up when you turn the headlights on. I know they light up when you turn on the heated seats, the orange light but i was wondering if any other part of the switch was suppose to light up?

No only lights up when activated to top/bottom, one led bulb inside with an orange reflector. I took out the reflector and put blue leds in one set that I have in my I30, I put red in another set I have sitting around.

Radio shack has everything, I just took mine apart, took out bulb from rubber holder to use for size comparison. Use a resistor on the positive side, and any led bulb close to that size. There is a great thread on this with pictures of the switch taken apart a few months ago, 1-4-06 Mendon 99 How to heated seat switch......don't know how to post it here for a link

Quick question, because I think the dealer installed both switches in backwards since the pictures of the seats on them don't face the same direction as on my I30 (we paid $500 to have them add on the heated seats option and got jipped on the mirrors, I'm so mad at myself for that one)

Do you push forward on the button for high and backwards on the button for low? (yes, I'm aware that this is by far the dumbest question I've ever posted on the .org)

Two modes on my 96 I30 heated seats back and butt not sure about newer I30s, did you ever fix your exhaust that exploded? 500 for heated seats wow...and they didn't give you heated mirrors that stinks

Small question on the same topic. THe driver side switch broke and after 3 months that it broke, I replaced it with a switch that I bought. But the seat won't heat up. I was thinking maybe some fuse blew in the process. Can someone direct me to the location of the fuse or let me know how I can fix it to have the heated seats functional again ?

Thanks !!

Well one sure way to find out is to sit on it and feel the difference. if you can't feel the difference, there are 2 bars on each side of the switch, the fatter one will be the higher temp. i hope i understood your description correctly. Pics would help if i got it wrong..

Fuse for seats is inside the car. Not sure the exact location on a 98, but on a 2000 it’s on the left side right below the mirror control under the dash. The cover is square and has a hole for the handle.

if switch doesn’t glow it does not necessarily means that heater is not working. Since the fuse was blown there might have been a short in a switch, blowing the LED and therefore the fuse. (Did you spill anything on it?) Sit down on the seat and turn on the switch, sit there for a while, 10 minuts should be sufficient enough to notice the difference. If nothing works I would say get a new switch or take it apart and clean it up as i did. Good luck!

just some info about that. I’ve been to 2 shacks but didn't find any color LEDs, so you probably better be off ordering online.
