Clicking and vibration... CV Joints?
Clicking and vibration... CV Joints?
I have been experiencing clicking when taking sharp turns (while pressing the accelerator) and vibration in the steering wheel any speed after about 65-70 mph. Also if I take my hand off the wheel at even low speeds the steering wheel rocks back and forth if I hit any groove or bump in the road and it used to not do this. Could this clicking and vibration be caused by bad CV joints? About how much would/should it cost to replace them in a 98 I30 if anyone else has had this done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hey, I think I just had this done recently, but after looking for the paperwork, I am not sure. I can't seem to find it. hmmmm.
Anyway, after looking in the mechanical book for our cars, they say;
If you have clicking noise in turns, then you may have a worn or damaged outboard CV joint.
If you have a knocking noise at low speeds, you may have worn driveaxle constant velocity (CV) joints.
Shudder or vibration during acceleration:
1) Excessive toe-in
2) Incorrect spring heights
3) Worn or damaged inboard or outboard CV Joints
4) Sticking inboard CV Joint assembly
Sounds to me like something with your CV joints would be a safe bet.
Hope that helped. Good luck.
