Huh?

IMHO, most people are unfamilar with the I30 and I35, whereas Maximas are not. Chalk that up to advertising, cost comparisons, and resulting sales.

Consumer product rags like "Consumer's Reports" or "Edmunds" dissed the Infinitis, calling them "rebadged Maximas with exorbitant price tags."

Basically, during the five-year span between 1995-1999 they compared the I30 with the GLS, feature for feature, and concluded that the extra G's for the I's were not justified.

Since I bought mine "pre-owned" with seven years under its belt at a price actually LESS than a comparably-equipped Max, I cannot comment on their argument.

I will say, though, that if I had a chance to go back in time and buy one new - knowing what I do now -- I would still buy the I30, even if it is not worth the extra bucks from an economic standpoint.

I love my car. I love how it looks and drives. I like it a lot more than the Max (no offense to Max owners), and I had driven several used 4th Gen Maxes before I made my choice.

The bottom line is that it does not matter how much the two vehicles actually share, in terms of shape, hardware, and accoutrements, because, as a whole, there is a BIG difference to me that cannot be reduced to nuts and bolts.

I'm going to have to agree with the poster above that the I30 may share all of it's parts with a Max but I agree that it is the better car. It wasn't just the Infiniti badge that made it $3k to $4k more than a comparatively equipped Max--it was things like higher quality leather, extra touches, and the Infiniti service (I still get free carwashes everyday at the dealership).

It also always pissed me off when people called the I30 a rebadged Max, when in fact it was the other way around.

And I'll also add that despite the fact that I30 shares so much with the Max, with its large and finely detailed grill, different headlight/taillight arrangement, and wheels, it doesn't really even look like a Max. It looks more like a rather large, imposing Euro. import.

My last car was a 95 Max GXE. The only reasons I got the I30 was 1. the price was right and 2.it was a Touring. Otherwise I was going for another Max. The two vehicles are the SAME. It's called badge enginerning(sp). Take some trim pieces, maybe a nicer interior, slap it on an existing car and WAHLA you have a "new" car. A lot of companies did that and continue to this day, but as consumers become more educated, it's not has easy as it used to be. Still love my Nissafiniti Maxi30t.

I was going to nitpick at your response untill I got to this paragraph:

I have had both an I30 and my current Maxima and the only differences (suspension aside because from the factory it is just bad and worse) were autodimming mirror and heated seats (which were on option on SE's).

When I was looking for an A32 I was looking for exactly that. Whether it be an I30t or an optioned SE. I'm not sure if you took my post the wrong way but I love I30s just as much as I do Maximas. To me the I30, I30t, and I30 limited are just options above GXE, SE, and GLE.

To me it sounds like a personal thing with YOUR car, and I can understand that. Belive me, I would not try to dog on an I30 owner.

Unless of course, they spell the nameplate with a Y. Then all bets are off.

Here we go again...

There are A LOT more differences than just the auto dimming mirrior...

1. Fuzzy a, b, and c pillars instead of cheap plastic.
2. Electronic fuel and trunk releases.
3. Dual map pockets on front seats.
4. Tilting front head rests.
5. Different dash.
6. Rear head rests.
7. Different hood, front end, fenders, bumpers, trunk, rear end... I think only the doors and uni body are shared.
8. Optional LSD (worth it all by itself).
9. Optional BBS wheels (worth it all by itself).
10. PS oil cooler (came only on SE maximas, and there have been a few SEs that still did not get it like Slimer).
11. Leather e brake handle (instead of cheap plastic).

14. In console cup Holder.

I thought the Max had the pop out storage bin.

Anyway, it's the same car...just one cost $4k more.

Some how I doubt that you could get a GLE Max in 97 for $26000.
