I am thinking about putting an I35 gauge cluster in my 2000 I30t, but I have a few questions. I’ve searched previous posts for some answers, but I wasn’t able to find anything on these specific questions for this year vehicle. Can someone help? My questions are:

• Does anyone have a how-to on removing the gauge cluster?
• Do I need to make any special mods to install the I35 cluster or is it plug-and-play?
• How can I change the odometer on the new cluster to equal the miles that are actually on the car?

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like naijai has the removal part covered.

For the "mods" to make it work...acquire wiring diagrams for the cluster from each car (you'll have to find them in the FSMs most likely) and match up the wires where they need to go and re-wire.

As for the mileage...that may have to be something that a dealership does for you. Easiest would be to try to find a cluster that has mileage pretty close to yours.

On a side note...I've seen some cases (not on this cluster) where people have done cluster swaps and essentially simulated the speed/rpm input to the donor cluster using a waveform generator and operated the cluster at like 140 mph for a couple weeks to match the mileage on their current vehicle.

How did this work out? I'm very interested in changing my cluster!

I have not had a chance to try this. If you end up doing this, please let me know how you did.

If this cluster swap is analagous to going from an 00/01 to an 02/03 maxima cluster, you are going to have some compatibility issues.

The most notable of which is the coolant temperature gauge. On the 02/03, the cluster gets the temperature as a voltage from the ecu. The 00/01 cluster uses a separate coolant temperature sensor that changes resistance with temperature.

I swapped an 03 max cluster into my 98 and my coolant temperature gauge didn't work until I swapped in the 2K2 ecu (along with the engine of course)
