Timing chain tensioner

(I can't search. Please forgive a redundant post if so.)

I believe I have a timing chain tensioner on its way out. It rattles like crazy under load (and it's not my valves).

Are there any field service tips out there or experiecnes with replacing them that are helpful?

What else, if anything should be replaced while it's apart?

If I let it continue, am I risking destruction?

I've been on this forum for a couple of years now & only remember one other thread on this rattling thing but can't find it now.

Thanks again in advance....

It pretty easy to remove. Just remove the cover and then unbolt it out. Use a paper clip to keep the tension off while while you pull it out. I would tie a long string on the paper clip so if it falls down inside the timing case, you can just pull it out. Make use to use new liquid gasket on the tensioner cover when you put the new one in.

Sweet! Thanks.

Do all drive belts need to come off first?

Anything else?

No drive belts need to be removed. Make sure you have a second pair of hands for holding back the chain guide when installing the new one.
