tranny replacement
tranny replacement
so for the past several months my car has been having problems shifting from 1st to 2nd. it would rev real high and then shift very roughly. on the freeway it seemed that the 4th gear was completely gone. it would sit at 4-5k rpm while cruising at 70-80 mph.
the cost to replace it comes out to $700 for a used tranny with 80,000 miles and $270 for the labor. the car has close to 180,000 miles on it. please tell me i made a wise choice in repairing it and that the car will give me many more miles.
i haven't had a car payment in 2 years and don't feel like buying a new car. plus i really like how my 97 i30 looks!
oh yeah..i'm finally able to post!

u made a good choice, my buddies car had 210k before he replaced the motor and tranny, and it only blew-up because he never replaced his waterpump and instead just kept adding water and he overheated it so many times before it finally blew a head-gasket, the vq is bulletproof.
i FINALLY got my car back. the first tranny they ordered had problems after installment so they ordered another and slapped that one on. the car feels so smooth. it almost feels brand new minus old suspension bumps. the damage came out to $1050 for a 70,000 mile tranny plus labor. i am sooo tempted in modding it..
My car has ~235K miles, and while i've had to replace minor things here or there, alt, starter, axles, nothing "MAJOR" has ever gone wrong with it, while keeping up with normal replacement of fluids and such!!!
