just pop out the trim peice around the shifter with a screwdriver as indicated by letter d on ki30t's post. after that its pretty much self explanitory. one thing, DO NOT remove the wire harness from the ac unit, not sure why but i heard it was a big no-no

pimpsmatt, If you are talking about the harness to the AC vents, it should not be a problem. It’s actually easier to get the vents out of the way to take the radio apart. If you are referring to the AC control unit below the radio, I disconnect my unit all the time to get the whole center console out as one piece. I have never had any problems when connecting it back, but there may be something that I don't know. If anyone else has thoughts on this, I would love to hear them. I'm just curious. Who told you that it was “a big no-no”?

Repost of images

Hey guys... I know this is an old thread, but could someone above please repost the image tutorial. Taking on this project next weekend and I want to know how hard it would be to do.

See if the images are posted in 5th gen or Audio forum. It's the same on the 5th gen max, basically.

Also, you should be able to find a post where the directions are spelled out in text if the images aren't anywhere. It's pretty straightforward though...pop out the trim around the shifter (flathead wrapped in cloth or trim wedge). Pull trim out, disconnect wiring harnesses behind it. Pop/wedge the vents out above the HU. I find it easiest to wedge the vents out of the dash from the sides until there's enough to grab on to and then yank them out (loud bang there, don't be alarmed). From there, remove two screws above the HU that hold the brackets in the dash and remove two screws below the HU that hold the brackets in the dash. Pull out entire center stack, remove wiring harnesses, do what you need to do, then reverse to reinstall.
