Guys,

I am looking for a good set of brake pads for my I35. Would you please suggest from your experience. Should it be OEM or something aftermarket (how about Akebono Ceramics, for example)? I am not very aggressive driver and I am looking for low dust set that does the job.

If you are just looking for some simple pads without imrpoved performance in mind, the Akebono will be good.

I have had a good experience with the Hawk HPS pads. Every once in a while I get a small amount of juddering, but it seems to come and go.

The brembo blank and HPS combo has gone much longer than stock without warping. Pretty good IMO.

 

I am currently using Hawk HPS with brembo cross-drilled. They are good but I am not too impressed. Next brake job I do, I will go with Axxis Ultimate. I had them in my previous car and I was very impressed with them.

 

OEM are good all around generally. Espicially for if your not an aggressive driver

 

Im an aggressive driver and im on my second set of akebono's since i got my rotors. I love em and under hard multiple braking, they dont fade.

 

Whats the word on ceramic vs composite?

 

OEM have trouble with material deposit on the rotors. Our undersized rotors get excessively hot and pad material is transfered to the rotor causing an uneven surface and the judder most of us have or will eventually experience.

Like I said, the Hawk HPS pads have not had much a problem with this, but I think we will have problems with just about any pad material. We really just need bigger rotors.

 

Eric is speaking from a 4th gen perspective, in which case oem is the best route. But that obviously does not apply here.

 

so Devon, on a 4th gen do you recommend OEM pads and rotors, or just pads?

 

You could do aftermarket rotors with the oem pads just stay away from the cross drilled... go with the slotted.
