I have a weird problem with the dome light(s) in my ’01 I30. Correct me if I’m wrong, but when you open the door, shouldn’t both the dome light in the center of the car illuminate, along with the map light between the sunroof and the windshield? I could swear that’s the way it used to work. Now, when you open the door, the map light doesn’t light up, and the dome light doesn’t come up to full brightness. If you flip the switch on the domelight from “door” to “on”, it comes on brightly.

The map light works if you push the button, but it doesn’t activate with the door. I assumed it was the pin switch in the door jamb, but it’s got a rubber boot to protect it & when I pushed it in & out a bunch of times, I found no change. Anyone have a possible solution for this problem?

 

That's normal. I have the same year and model and it's how it works. so don't worry about it.

 

I second the above poster. The map light should only come on when the button is pressed.

 

i think it's better this way.
i prefer to keep the lights off when i open the door. every car i've owned, i've turned the switch to off.

Hmmm. OK, I guess I just assumed the maplight was supposed to illuminate with the door open. It was my wife's car since new, I just took it over 2 weeks ago.

The dome light still seems to be flawed though. It's only at (I would guess) 75% brightness with the door open. When you switch it to "on" it comes on bright like it should.
