Think I found out why my gas mileage sux.

So I was under the car replacing the KS and O2 sensors along with plugs over the weekend. The has been riding just as it had when I first purchased it no shimmy, no thuds, nothing. Well, all of the motor mounts are busted and both CV boots are trashed.

I can only image how much power was being lost.

split cv boots and old motor mounts have little (if anything) to do with your gas mileage.

good find though. looks like you have yourself another repair project on your hands.

That is waht he was replacing... a long with the O2 sensors, so the poor fuel economy issue has probably been resolved.

I think it would affect fuel economy. With the motor being able to move power is not being transferred directly to the drivetrain, some of the is lost by the power shift the weight of the motor. I also think that there is some power lose by the joints wobbling while accelerating.

I would have to agree... Motor mounts and CV joints are not going to have much of an effect on power or fuel economy.

the very first thing you should do is do a fuel injection service. dont put that stuff in your gas tank and call it a day - get the wynn's kit which includes three different cans of items which you use to clean the injectors. it's very thorough...to get the same thoroughness, you can have it done from a car repair shop and pay for the labor (about $60-100, which is reasonable if you're lazy and dont wanna think too hard while doing it).

another thing to do is check the air pressure in your tires. if it's too low, you're going to get very poor mileage. be careful not to overinflate it, then you'll be a danger on the road.

I live in MASS. I have looked for thw Wynn's kit in every local car parts shop I could find. From Auto Zone to Peepboys, Advanced to PSI Performance and SpeedZone (two popular aftermarket performance parts shops here in Worcester) and just cannot seem to find it. Is there a link you post for the purchase?

Check your ECU codes as per the 4th gen stickys.

Typical symptoms include bad MPG & lack of power.

Motor mounts? Seriously? Guess I could see the logic since it could waste some of the engine's energy not transferring power to the wheels as efficently. Anyone have proof that it works?

Even with bad mounts, your engine is not rocking back in forth in some crazy fit. The effect as I said would be minimal if any.
