Burned Light Sockets
Burned Light Sockets
Ok ... So I put in the aftermarket "HID" like bulbs ... Promised to be correct wattage and all ... well after a while, they stopped working and I noticed the socket had melted ... Now they work when they fell like it, but it's a safety issue as to how my wife is driving the car. Does anyone know how to repair/replace the socket that holds the lightbulb?? If it's an easy fix that would be good. I'm in Spain, and can't get to a dealer, so self repari seems to be the only viable option. Any help would be appreciated.
HID vs Projector headlights
I have a 2001 Infiniti I30 - Stock without HIDs.
What is the difference between HID Projectors vs. a Halogen Projector.
Many Newer car claim that they use halogen lights, and the the projector lens make it look as if it is a HID setup? am i right?
I've also read that HID Kits do not come with HID projectors and they only enable you to use an hid light bulb in your car. and u might have to buy the project seperatly.
Also, there was a write ups stating that all HID Kits are not worth the money because they dont work (effective) as well as some of the HIDs that come stock on the new Lexus cars. Any truth to that?
My question is: could i just purchase a halogen projector for my stock halogen lights, instead of using a HID Kit? Will my light output be effected. I want the HID look, but i dont want HID kit cons.
Someone please shine some light on me....
(P.S. I got this from another forum, but it said what I needed it to say, without typing it up!!!!)

hey...i typed that in the HID planet forum.. well i'll tell u this before one of the maxima org bullys comes to tell you to go back to HID forum.
But you should go back to the HID Forum because they answered the questions for me there.
Here is the link to some answers that they even told me here:

Read what i posted and the responses to it. The guy who started that thread is doing exactly what we want... except we would need a HID kit (Kits are fine, but u need to retro fit) because our stock I30 have halogen light. the I35's came stock with HID lights so they dont require a HID kit
If you have other questions PM me!
It's a fairly simple answer.
The difference is the same as between HID bulbs compared to halogen bulbs. Halogen gives you good enough light output, HID gives you really bright light output thus better visibility.
If we move up a step to projectors we can use the same analogy. Projectors alter the light output of a bulb and focus it to a specific area to give better visibility and light output.
So then an HID projector would give a brighter light output than halogen projectors. So in the end...
HID projector < halogen projector < hid reflector < halogen relfector
A halogen reflector headlight is what you possess on your car.

Ok ... For those who care .. the kid is back, and it didn't cost me 1800 ... Only 19.95.
had my mom pick up two 9006 connectors from Autozone, or Pepboys, or whatever, and shipped them to Spain. !!! Replaced the following :

This is the reason i was getting intermitant headlights ...
Upon further inspection, I found this. Pretty interesting that the dealership didn't advise me to replace them before they got this bad.

One more for your viewing pleasure.

Both connectors weren't this bad, but I replaced them. It's a small fix, but one that was causing many problems.

Cut the electrical tape down about 3 inches where the sockets are wired up to. Then go to autozone and get some new sockets they're 3 bucks a piece. Find a FSM or a haynes to get the correct wiring. Same thing happened to me. Except mine ended up in a cloud of smoke.
