Blacking out a grille

After i took off my I30 grille to replace it with the I35 grille, i thought it would be pretty cool to experiment with it, i was thinking about sanding off the crappy crome leaf like stuff to get just the plastic coating and spray paint it black.

Has anyone every done/tried this, how did it come out, pics or anything would be nice also

and if all comes out well, ill make a write up and maybe you guys could sticky it or something

Well I may not have a 5th gen, but it's the same idea.

Stock grille

It may not be the best pic of it, but you get the idea...I just taped off the edge and middle bar, and sprayed the rest black. When I spray another layer I may sand it down this time beforehand.

If you could get black chrome it would look good, especially on a black car.

What type of paint did you use? I think I may do that. I really don't like the Chrome grille on the 00-01 I30, and the fact that ZOMG is talking about painting the actual grille I was going to buy! LOL, J/K.

Also does anybody know how I can get the look of the 01 I30t smoked headlights. I was think of getting smoked film from LaminX.

Of course this give me an opportunity to show more pics of my car.

HOWEVER, I will not post pics. My grille is painted (except the infiniti symbol)to match the body color HX2. When I had a small fender bender, I asked my body shop to paint the grille. Supposedly they sanded down the chrome (or plastic chrome look) and primed + painted the grille 3 times.

It's been about 9 months now since I got it done and it still looks new. I do wax and polish the grille often though. I like it, give the car a more clean look. I am not a big fan of chrome on cars anyway.

Pics of painted grille are in the member rides thread in the stickies.

Remove headlights, put in oven, pull off lenses, remove trim, spray paint trim, reinstall in reverse order.
