Write-up : Rear rotor/brake pad replacements 2001 I30 A33
Well I did all of my rotors and brake pads this weekend because I didnt want to pay Nissan/Infiniti dealership 900 bucks to do them for me. I found a ton of information on how to do the front brake pads just by doing the search option as well as going through the DIY section on the 5th gen maxima forums. Theres even a few write-ups from other websites that go in great detail on how to do the fronts which also includes pictures as well. However I couldnt find that much info on the rears eventhough a lot of people say its pretty much the same. So just to help the lay person and all the beginning noobs out (like myself), I will post my write up back to the one place that made it possible to do my own work on my own car.
...Actually I'm having trouble posting pictures with this forum thing. Can anyone help me out here? I can send my word document to whoever and they can post it up on this forum

Nice write-up. I will definently take this into my favrorites folder for future reference. Excellent pictures also!
I couldnt help to see that you replaced your front shocks with Tokico. My I30 has been rattling like a **** .. . .and I think its time for me to change up the all four shocks/struts. Can you share with me some of the symptoms prior to changing out the suspension? THanks!

I had originally bought the car about 2 years ago at a local nissan dealership in CO. Back then it had about 46000 miles on it. About 5-6 months later, i would always hear a "creaking" / "popping" sound once in a while when i turned left or turn right into a little dip on the street. Those little dips that neighborhoods would have that channel water through between streets....those things.
well anyways, I looked under the wheel well and found out that the rubber seal that sits under the spring on the perch was comming off. At that time I was already looking into lowering the car and switching out to 18" rims. I did some massive research on the springs/shock combos that a lot of people had in this forum and in the 5th gen maxima forum and found that the tokico illuminas and Tein H-tech springs were the most common and most comfortable to stock springs that a lot of people had opted for.
The work wasnt too bad and it was quite fun; I enjoyed it for it being my first time. Just like everything else on this car, I wanted to be cautious on the things i was doing so it took some time to get it done. It took me about 3 days to finish up both front and rear springs/shocks but it was definitely worth all the work.
As far as symptom wise, I really dont remember rattling at all. Maybe if the shocks were bad and it felt like metal banging, that would probably be the case but i'm not so sure

Flipin,
Creaking and popping would probably be the better description of what im hearing also. Honestly, it doesnt make sense for a luxuary sedan to sound like that. I wish I had a good camcorder to actually show what ive been experiencing. Small pot holes, cracks, or going up the driveway would aggitate the suspension. I am going to bring it into a shop and get a second opinion ..by the way . . where did you purchase your suspension from?

I got all my springs and shocks thru the group deals in the forums, from this one guy Ccorey from redline maxima. I guess he's not doing the business anymore due to a magnitude of problems with personnel at their facilities. However, I do remember paying about 120 for all the springs and roughly 400 for the shocks/struts front and back. I'm sure if you ebay the tokico illuminas you probably get a better deal from there than the group deals
