exhaust q's

Going to replace everything after the cat but need some advice here

want something as close to factory sound maybe a little louder but as free flow as possible was thinking taking the car to a muffler shop and just replace it but i know for sure the will use the cheapest muffler and probably small diameter tubing so i decided to try to find a decent flowing muffler my self and have it installed

one more thing not going to spend more that $250 on it call me cheap but on my 240sx/sr20det my blitz catback nurspec cost me $620 shipped but this ain't not race car no even close at least mine ain't

you can proably do a custom exhaust. not sure about pipe size but try virbant performance website to get you some piping. they make very good mendrel bent pipes. and buy a magnaflow resonator and buy a universal muffler.

Get a Cattman b-pipe for your gen, will increase the sound a little bit.

1- no more than $250 for the whole catback
2- don't want to sound loud but willing to accept a little bit louder sound if it performs better than crappy cheap muffler installed at the local shop

I think you are being a bit unrealistic. A good quality muffler, say Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster ALONE will be around $100. Add the resonator ($20-60) along with piping and labor for welding for under $250?

first i hate the sound of all the ones you mentioned too loud either they drone high speed or rattle when accelerating too hard

my local shop just quote me $150 for the whole catback installed but using same diameter tubing and a cheap replacement muffler so what i want is to get a a better muffler and increase the diameter up to 2.5" without increasing the loudness of the exhaust that will set the price around $250 doesn't have to be exactly that

already checked all the clips i could find using almost all brands of "high performance mufflers" and haven't found single one that i like it,too loud ,bees in a can, rattling, droning and everything in between

so basically what I'm looking for is people that replaced their exhaust or have done custom catbacks and achieved a "normal" or as close to "normal" sound using 2.5", what muffler they have used

i just came from the local muffler shop after the guy over there call me telling me to hear this other maxima he was going to do the same stuff i want, the guy is using a 2 1/4" tubing a dynomax bullet as a resonator and a dynomax muffler all this with stock y-pipe stock intake and found out this is what i want but 2.5" it sounds close to stock maybe a few db higher no droning,no rattle and it cost the guy a total of $275 because it was the shop who bough the muffler and resonator so if i buy them myself i can save a few bucks maybe the shop also offered me to do the a custom y-pipe for $100 he told me he can do it no problem that i'm not sure sure i want it done by any local shop but if i like the way the exhaust looks maybe i will have it done he also told me to get a hi-flow cat that already saw for around $60 so for $435(if a decide to do the y-pipe) or so i will have a complete exhaust system that should flow better than stock and still sound decent

oh one more thing i trust this guy he is the one that did all the exhaust on my uncle's '67 and '68 camaros and the job looks great

Well, if you think that you can get a 2.5'' custom b pipe w/ resonator and a dynomax muffler w/ installation for less than $250 then you should do it.

Do you live in an area with snow and road salt? If yes, then aluminized steel the shop will 99% use will not hold out well.

n3 i saw u got a catback done on your car in the headlight retro post. Do you have any sound clips of it? preferably not youtube... can't get on there from work... but any other one i should be able to get into including google video... And does anyone have the whole cattman system for our car... i wanted to hear it on the 02 3.5, seems like everyone on the 5th gen forums has links to the 3.0 with full cattman.

So, you mean entire cattman catback, minus the headers?
