I have an HKS muffler, which due to the I35 longer rear, the tips do not align with the bumper. It is 3 inches too short, however it hasn't been a problem til a month ago when I did my 12 hour drive back home from college. So a trip to the exhaust shop and adding 2.5" of extension fixed the problem, but still having a burnt bumper FTL.
So a warning to anyone thinking of getting the HKS muffler.

And a result pic coming tomorrow.

LOL, that blows dude.
If that had happened to me, since the bumper's already kinda trashed, I'd probably attempt to do a cut-out of some sort around the exhaust tips. That way you get rid of the burnt part and it might look cool all at the same time. Worst case scenario you have to replace the bumper if it looks too bad...but you were going to have to do that already anyway.

WTF!?! I never had that problem. Then again I bought the cattman mufflers and purposely added three inches of pipe that goes over the axle. My shop then welded new hangers so the muffler tips would not touch my bumper like that. Ewww!!!
Tips look good. Looks like how I extended mine pass the bumper. It looks so much better that way.

I had heard this was an issue when running a Max exhaust on the I35. Same thing happened with alot of us Forester owners when we slapped WRX exhausts on our cars. I hate to think that I am going to have to mod a muffler before it even goes on my car again but better than than melted plastic. Thanks for the clarification for me. In any case, I would think that modding a Catman muffler would be a little easier since the tips are basically blunt cut pipes. I would think you could simply cut the tips off and weld on new ones that were simply longer. But to each his own.

I took a look at the Ionic kit and the rear muffler cut out appears to be for a single tip like maybe the Greddy EVO muffler. You might have to get it modded to allow room for the twin tips. $$$ Love the look of the kit though. I agree, it looks alot better with the tips clearing the bumper slightly!
