Who here has a non-Nissan windshield?
Who here has a non-Nissan windshield?
Unfortunately it looks like my insurance company won't pay for a Nissan replacement windshield despite my full glass coverage. They'll pay for an OEM equivalent from Pilkington, PPG, or one of the other major OEM suppliers, but not the Nissan one (why I don't know). I'm concerned that the aftermarket ones might not look exactly like the original and end up looking bad...can anyone comment on whether or not my concern is valid?
I still have the original glass, but my mom had her windshield replaced on her I35 with aftermarket glass and my sister's pathfinder with aftermarket glass, and I can't tell a difference.
But as far as I'm concerned, glass is glass (so long as it's clear, LOL). As long as it's installed properly I think you'll be fine.

Pilkington ftmfl, at least the one that 'was' on my dad's tundra, until I couldn't take the odd film that would streak/blur in the rain/moisture in a way that I can't even begin to explain, so I punched it
That's good to hear.
Another thing I noticed is that my factory windshield has some kind of markings on it for the auto-dimming mirror...do the aftermarket ones have that or will there be issues with the mirror?

Well it's settled. My car will be getting a PPG windshield (with auto-dimming mirror markings, apparently there is only one windshield option for my car which makes things easy). On the plus side, the glass shop has done many Infinitis for the dealer in Richmond before and so they know the cars well. They will also be using OEM mouldings and trim if necessary, no aftermarket crap.
Mine's cheaper - $125 and I can't tell, even the tint on the top is the same. But hey, if ur ins will pay for anything not nissan, get the next most expensive...
One caution though - when the glass guy replaced my windshield I didn't notice but he lost the little rubber rod thing to hang stuff off of the mirror. It's been a pain to replace that.

i had to have mine replace before i bought the car cause the nissan one was cracked and would not pass safety, i think its the pilkington kind or whatever, car feels brand new with a new windshield
make sure the installer is a pro, they use special cocking glue and have to take the mouldings apart, mine got bent and i had to get a new one from the dealer
as far as the glass it self, well - its glass - just as stated before

I ended up taking my car to a really nice shop in Richmond, VA that the local Infiniti dealer recommended me too. OEM moldings + PPG windshield = perfect. The only way to tell it isn't original is to look for the small PPG logo.
