Should I buy it? '01 I30 w/ possibly fried ECU
Well in my hourly Craigslist stalking looking for a decent deal on a project car, I stumbled upon an '01 I30 with no price listed. The ad said if they couldn't sell it they would donate it, which is always a good sign they'll let it go cheap. So even though it wasn't really what I'm looking for, I sent them an email. Here's what I found out --
162k miles
Silver with Black leather
Aaaand the fun part - supposedly has a fried PCM (I'm thinking they meant ECU?)
Here's the story as I heard it: husband drives the car to work one day and it works fine. Comes out a few hours later and it won't start -- doesn't attempt to crank, all the dash lights come on but nothing happens. Jumping it didn't help so they had it towed.
Dealer (used car dealer, not Nissan) they took it to says the PCM is fried and ~$1100 to replace.
The person sent me a message today and said they'll let it go for $1000 (!). Do the symptoms sound like it could be just a bad ECU? I was thinking possibly an immobilizer issue also. I haven't gone to look at it yet but it almost sounds like too good of a deal to pass up.
Any thoughts? Worth buying to part out even?
