Ground kit and other wire stuff

I decided that it would be a good idea to replace my cars 4 chassis ground cables and i was curious, what size ground cables are on there now?

second question is, my starter doesnt start all of the time, the armatures land in a bad position and don't turn. It was suggested to me that a new power wire would be a good idea and make sure that the ground is goof. The starter is a new refurbed one, turns over great when it does.

third question is i want to replace the alternator wires as well. what size is on there now and what would be a good reccomneded upgrade size?

As you're thinking about those grounds, can you describe the placement of each and where it goes to/from? I'm gonna tackle this this weekend myself. ThanKS!

Follow the stock grounds... generally... alternator, chassis, IM, Crank Angle Sensor

here you could follow this website, its for their ground kit, but the pics shown show you where your grounds are. its for a maxima, but i30 maxi, pretty much same thing, should give you a good guideline

http://www.activetuning.com/products...stallation.php

when i do mine im going to upgrade the ground system to a 2 awg wire, i believe 4 awg is standard on there and doesnt make sense to replace it with new 4 awg wire in a way i suppose. im purchasing it from here.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=100-182

you can get red or black, partsxpress is a very reputable site, they sell all kinds of kool ****.

i just found this site, they carry 2awg cable kits, never bought from em before

Sweet! Thanks! I saw that my setup; was slightly different in that from the neg post, it went under the battery, bolted to chassis and than continued to the block with a brass bracket. I trashed the OEM wire & got some 2ga wire to do the same job & I think my shifts are crisper & my long cranking-to-start issue is at least better.

Of course, I also replaced the ignition switch, spark plugs, fuel filter & PCV in the same weekend. We'll see how it behaves in the coming weeks but I thing I'm about to sell it anyway.... just picked up an M45 ;-)

i noticed the same thing. I guess the whole car is grounded through that one wire. I assume everything else is connected because od metal on metal contact. I am going to try and reground my starter with 6 or 4 gauge and then a beefer pos lead on the starter as well.

It's an 04, so no lip. It's gray with black leather & NAV. Rear spoiler is coming soon. I'll see about some pics. Holy mother of God ..is it fast!

Back on topic though....I noticed that the battey grounding setup is roughly the same on the M car, so back to the store I go soon.

OT, but the '03-'04 M45 is a great car. One of the real hidden gems in the performance sedan category. I was given one as a loaner a few years ago because my local dealer was so desperate to sell it. If I'd had the money for it I wouldn't have given it back.
