New owner with some questions.

Hello everyone. I have been searching this site for a while but I have not found definitive answers to my questions, hence this thread.

1. When looking for mods, accessories, adaptors, etc. Is the 2004 I35 considered a 5.5 generation or 6th generation Maxima?

2. I read some threads about iPod Adaptors if your head unit DOES NOT have SAT and CD. What if it does? Is there an adaptor which will allow me to control my iPod from the wheel controls?

3. My car idles high (around 900), and in one occasion threw code p0507. I used an ODB2 reader to clear the code, but that has not solved my problem. I attempted the steps I found on this site to "relearn" the air volume, but they do not seem to work on my car. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need Consult II to solve the issue?

Many, many thanks in advance for your answers.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

In regards to #3 I will check carefully again. However my question was more along the lines of why does the following procedure does NOT work on my car??

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
2. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
3. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
4. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops
blinking and turned ON.
5. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL goes off.
6. Start engine and let it idle.
7. Wait 20 seconds

Seems like this is a pretty standard procedure, but my SES light never blinks as it is supposed to.

This is something that I found for other Maximas. I have no idea if it applies to the 2004 I35. If it does not, I am guessing then than the only other way to make adjustments is probably with a consult II??

Anything which applies to the 5.5gen applies to our cars.

Idle re-learn and other procedures all are time sensitive, try it with a stop watch.

Thanks N3985. I did try that like 4-6 times and failed miserably. I did not know if it would apply to my car. Thanks for clarifying that!

because I didn't know where he got the instructions from, and they don't always work (any set of instructions like those)

RE # 2 Do you have a 6 disc trunk changer or a Blose 6 disc deck? I modded my trunk changer to play aux in, but it does not have Steering wheel control..

Thanks again N3985. I tried one more time, this time I stepped on the pedal 5 times as fast as I could and it worked!! In fact it worked great! The car is idling perfectly! You just saved me a trip to the dealership!

Norkoastal, you would not happen to have any pictures of the install??

I don't know of any adapters that allow you to connect an iPod to the stereo and still allow you to use the wheel controls. On the other hand, there are adapters that allow you to connect an aftermarket cd player to the wheel controls in our cars.

Find a decent stereo (maybe $100-$150) that has an available module to allow steering wheel controls to work AND has iPod capability. Pioneer and Kenwood are a bit more expensive than the average cd player, but either of those brands will for sure fix your problem.

Ha... Ha... No pics.. It was near dark when I took the plunge and cut the CD changer wires... Simply splice in a long headphone plug into the CD changer wires (this will take a while since there are a couple wires that need to be combined for all speakers to play correctly). Run the wire to near the middle console, buy a boostaroo headphone amp to boost the signal, and then plug in your source when in the car.
