My I35 has a black eye!

What do I do ?!

So I blacked out a headlight housing this weekend... Only had time for one, so now my I35 has a bruised eye.
Clear sidemarkers are on their way...

For those of you that have cleared their headlights, what bulb did you guys use for the turn signal? I've heard of LED bulbs being used, but with resistors. Can someone clear that up? Thanks!

That black eye looks good. Bruise the other 1 as soon as possible.

I would skip the LEDs and just do the chrome 7440 bulbs, they look silver but shine amber. LEDs with resistors still burn out fast.

Lol, thanks... I dunno, I think the black looks sharp. It'll look cleaner when the sidemarkers are clear. Besides, if they do it on Bimmers and Benzes, won't it make my car look more expensive ?

Edit:
Are these the bulbs you're talking about, n3985?

Brabus ftw, my grandma lives 5 minutes from their Headquarters in Germany. Those cars are ridiculous.

+1 on the chromed 7440 bulb. For some reason I don't like clear side markers on white cars tho. I think the amber looks better, ideal would maybe be a slightly smoked one.

scroll down to chrome 7440 bulb, that's the one he meant.

Thanks, guys! This was relatively straightforward to do. Just bake the headlight to take it apart (plenty of info on teh interwebs as to headlight baking recipes). Then, once the headlight is apart, take out the silver housing, pop out the orange reflector, and spray paint away! I used Duplicolor engine enamel, low gloss black, bought from Kragen...

hmm.. i alwayes like cars with blacked out headlights but for some reason on i30/i35's i dont like it. i think chrome inside with the clear turns look soo much better. black inside make our cars look mean and i love mean looking cars but i30/i35's have smily/pretty faces. lol

and damn those BRABUS cars are the sickest!!i saw a vid of one them almost hitting 200mph! and that particuler car wasnt even running 100% .

I loved black housing lights when I first started seeing them. But now, it looks sorta tacky to me. Good job though.

lol @ ChrisMan
Sorry about the lack of pics, guys! I'm done with the headlights, and I even washed the car on saturday!! Unfortunately, it HAD to rain on sunday. But I did manage to get a photoshoot in before the rains started, so I'll be posting that up soon, since I don't have the computer with the pics.

Body color headlights have been done on the I35, in white, actually. I think there's pics in the thread by ZGadson about painting headlight housings...

Lovin' the white - very classy.

I'd also be careful about which kind of bulbs you buy for the corners. I cleared mine, but I can't find any of the silver coated bulbs that will fit in the housing. They're the correct bulb for the connection, but they just don't seem to make the silver coated amber bulbs in a small enough diameter to fit through the hole to get into the housing. I've tried several different kinds and none will fit.

Im assuming someone has found some? If so, where and what type exactly?

I found ones that fit. Just get the 7440 bulbs on the autolumination site, they're the right size. They're the one with this pic:

right over them. They look exactly like the OEM bulbs, but they're made out of an orange glass and have a coat of silver paint over them. I was thinking about taking the OEM bulbs, painting them transparent orange and then silver, but I was too lazy. You could try it, it's probly be the same effect.

And thank you for the compliments !

Not to hijack your thread, but I was thinking of painting the grayish housing inside the headlights black - this would not involve tinting the lense cover (although I would definately tint the fogs). Has anyone else done this?

Err... That's exactly what I did. I didn't tint anything, just painted the inside housing black.
