Tired of the stock tail lights and no aftermarket tails, is this possible? (98 i30t)
I love the i30t more than the Maxima, but the only thing i'm jelous of is the tail light situation. I have some questions...
1. Would it be possible to take out the 4 brake light bulbs and replace them each with a small LED strip?
2. Would the LED's function properly? (Get brighter when you hit the brake)
3. Would the LED's appear as a line of red dots? (The way the G35 tails appear as red dotted circles)
4. Would I be able to put LED's in the center strip thats tinted with the INFINITI lettering?

You can open them the same way as the Maxima tails and do something like this...
Just a thought. The outer lenses are clear, aside from the reflector, so LED's should look pretty good in them. The downside is that theyre so clear the boards would be visible as well.
Now the outer tails open up the same way as Maxima tails using the oven method. The center piece wont fit in most ovens so a heat gun would be best. And actually I found it a lot easier to have an extra pair of hands taking it apart. One person heating, the other pulling apart. Just dont start on the sides, start on the top or bottom. Its easy to crack and pulling from the sides puts stress on the center. (Trust me, I cracked my first one this way.)

Theres no LED's in there. I just posted the pics to show that its possible to open the tails and customize them. I removed the stock turn signal and reverse light reflectors and made my own smoked ones. I seriously thought about putting LED's in them until I got sidetracked by work and other projects. I might still get around to it someday but for now its on hold.
Another idea I had, since the brakelight lenses are so clear, was to use alternating rows of CCFL's and LED's. CCFL's for the taillights, LED's for the brake lights. Cost is a little more but would look amazing IMO.

I opened up the tails, took out the clear reverse light reflectors and amber turn signal reflectors. Then using those reflectors I used them as a template and made my own pieces out of that florescent light plastic from Home Depot. I painted the inside of the tail light hosings gloss black and smoked the new reflectors with some hobby shop spray tint. Put it all back together and cleaned them up. Took about 3 hours total, start to finish.
