Navigation input while in motion

Anyone know how to disable the motion lockout in the OEM NAV system? Is it a switch in the VSS line ? Or do I have to find and ground the brake signal ?

Thanks

Kevin

I would imagine a toggle switch on a VSS wire going into the unit would accomplish what you're looking to do.

Thanks

going to give it a shot, I have the switch and the wiring. Question - anyone know which wire from the back of the NAV harness is the VSS line?

I'd take a look at the FSM and see if there's a wiring diagram. I'd look but I don't have a copy on this computer.

VSS line is pin 14 on the back of the nav control unit, purple/red wire.

Note that the navi may use the GPS in addition to VSS at normal travel speeds, the FSM doesn't really clarify which speed input it uses to lock out the screen.

Thanks Pmohr,

Will have to try this out this weekend and report what happens. IF it works like my other car it should give the passenger a set period of time to enter the destination before you have to re-trip the switch. I will probably mount a switch in the ashtray or something.

Yeah! It is a toggle switch over the VSS line.

the OEM system uses the VSS line in slow trafic to update your point on the map. the GPS is used once you get moving.. like on a highway... so if VSS not connected then your car on the map will be off..
