i30 & i35/Maxima Parts number crossreferencing
Got a quick question. The recent discusson on the tri-fecta markup on the Bose subwoofer got me thinking:
I've read many a time that the Maxima and i30/i35 are mechanically identical in many respects. Do we have a resource where we can look up the Nissan part number for an Infiniti part, or vice versa?
For example: Let's say I'm wanting to replace the brake rotors and for whatever reason insist on using OEM branded parts. (I personally would not do this but it's an easy example.)
If I go to the Infiniti dealer, they will charge me Infiniti prices, even though the Nissan parts down the street are likely to be identical yet cheaper since I'm paying for the Infiniti brand. I've even seen this sort of markup at places like AutoZone -- a friend who worked there showed me that parts were priced higher for a Mazda Tribute than the identical Ford Escape.
However, there is a small part of me that wants to make absolutely sure that the parts are compatible -- hence the parts compatibility list. Are the part numbers between brands easily translated (like N-123-ABC12 to I-123ABC12) or do they have their own not-easily-decoded system?
Does such a thing exist yet, and if not, how can I get hold of a parts book for each car similar to the Factory Service Manuals that I've seen floating around? I'd be glad to get this ball rolling if someone could help me with the resources.

Any part which is not body, center console, top console will work between 02-03 Maxima and I35.

Excellent.
Same goes for 00-03 Maxima and I30?

I posted this question a few weeks ago and nobody knew for sure. The key interlock and brake lock are a bit different between the two shifters. I looked on the FSMs for the I30 and I35 and the wiring is definitely different.
I didn't think it could be done but I recently saw an I30 on CL that had some I35 interior parts including the gated shifter. From what I can tell, it may be doable but you will most likely lose the key interlock, meaning the car can be shifted into gear w/o the key in the ignition, but I think the brake lock can be retained, which is th eimprtant one.
There is a guy on NYC maximas that does auto to manual swaps. I emailed him about the gated shifter and he said to give him a call to discuss, I haven't had the time to speak with him. I picked up the shifter with **** fo $50. I wil let you know when I have a chance to investigate further.
