Just bought an 02 I35 with Nav, need help on Aftermarket radio

Hey guys,
I just bought an I35 this weekend, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to use my JVC Kd-R530 Head Unit with it... I've read different things on this forum about how the Bose speakers won't link up, problems with getting the trip button and general steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket HU, the navigation screen not connecting to the radio, finding the all too elusive mca5 cd, (5 was missing, car came with 1 and 3 I think, wanna trade?) etc.

Anyone have any tips for me before I tear about my dash and blow something out?
(God I never appreciated how easy it was on my Camry lol)
Thanks!

Hey, Congratz on your purchase. It's a good car that should give you years of troublefree repairs. How many miles did you buy it with? I bought a 04 I35 with the navi package back in 09 and I so regreat getting it with the navi. It's so outdated with no chance of getting upgraded discs. It was a waste. I had a Pioneer Z3 with my old car that I sold cause I got this one with the navi and didnt want to change out the unit. I really never researched it too much but i believe if you change the radio and navi out with a aftermarket unit, u will lose out on the factory flip up screen. I also believe you will lose out on the bose too unless there's an adapter that will integrate it into the aftermarket unit. Hope I helped out a bit and good luck with the ride. Keep us posted on ur progress

Thanks Nuff! I bought it with a little over 115. Today, I took it for an oil change and they discovered that it's leaking from the oil pan lol And there is an annoying clicking coming from the engine. The mechanic seems to think it's the "lifter" but I've read it could also be the timing belt and plastic housing. I need to take it back this week and have them look at it. But other than that, it's great!

I planned on keeping the factory Nav if possible, I was just wondering if there was a head unit that the nav would be compatible with. I know it has that crazy plug in the back that makes these things kind of hard :/

I love those rims that the 35 comes. They seem to not be all that common. My 30 has the same leak and
"clicking"...lol...you get used to it with time. I'm not sure if the nav setup would use a different harness than the regular Bose setup in order to keep the factory amps. However there are interfaces that would let you to use the factory screen as an external screen for a DVD player or something.

I know your post was from 2012 but i have the same vehicle I put an aftermarket head unit in it myself after the I got an outrageous quote. To my knowledge you can integrate the the flip up screen with your new head unit. The installer who quoted me said he tested it and got video to play to the screen. he also told me that the only way i could get the screen to open and close is through the factory nav controls...so he said he would have to bury it in the dash some how. I'm an electrician by trade so I know that i can put a momentary contact somewhere that will do the same thing jus have to get my hands on a schematic. If you figured it out, found a link or any info on how this is done(cause i know it can be done) let me know
