I30 Major Disappearing Motor Oil

98 I30, in a matter of 3 or 4 days I had to put 5 qts of motor oil (not a typo). Only traveled about 80 miles.

No oil on floor, engine has very good power.
At odd times there is smoke at tailpipe. 129k miles.
After right turns, smoke belches out for a moment.
When oil hits combustion chamber the engine will stumble.
Several import mechanics have tried to fix it with no change.
So this will score points for the one that hits the solution.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a bad head gasket of worn valve guides.

Sounds like you have a bad motor here... Probably due for a rebuild. Have you had it long? Do you know the maintenance history?

Possibly worn valve seals since it happens at "odd times" (i.e. when you are coasting). Only thing that leads me to believe its not this is the fact its 5 qts in 80 miles...thats VERY excessive.

Have someone follow you while driving your car, go up a hill at a decent amount of throttle and then turn around and go back down the hill and let off about 1/4 ways down and coast the rest. Get back on the accelerator at the bottom and see if you see any smoke (blueish white for oil).

If smoke was emitted going up the hill, it may be piston rings or scored cylinders since the engine was under load. If it smokes when you get back on the throttle after coasting down the hill then it is more than likely valve seals since the pressure from coasting draws oil into your cylinders right past the worn valve guides.
