My low mile 100%stock 99 i30 id throwing a p0443 check engine light. Its been several weeks and it's not going away, I've disconnected the negative battery cable for 10+ minutes, and it came right back on... So there is something going on.

p0443 - EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.

I have worked on cars for years, but have no idea what this is, where it is, or how to fix it.

I am also new to i30's. Is this a common problem? Any ideas what to look for or how to fix it?

The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is bolted on top of the intake manifold near the throttle valve. What may help you would be to download the section of the service manual and see what it says.

Download section EC (Engine Control). Page 14 has a parts locator diagram and page 347 has a description of the P0443 code and troubleshooting info. It just may be that the solenoid valve is bad, but maybe it isn't.
