sound system

hey guys iv got an 02 i35 and i wanna rip out the bose system and throw in all new equiptment. iv priced out everything i want. speakers, sub, amp, double din deck and it comes to around 700ish from best buy. i was just wondering how much you think itll cost to get it all installed. id like to stay at around $1000 for everything said and done. also is best buy a good place to get it installed? or should i get it done at an audio shop which i know will be pricey'er

ive gotten everything installed at my local best buy (except subs/amp), dont listen to what some goons say about their service, while the experience does vary sometimes most of the time they do it right (at least decks and speakers, not sure about subs). If you go to bestbuy or their website theyll have their prices for installs listed..its usually about $60 for speakers, but speakers and amp is gona be more expensive.

yea iv checked that out. personally i have no problem with the way they install things iv had good experiences i had them install an isimple for the bose which was great at first but i guess since the music was coming in more powerful the front tweeters crackle on the highs after a month and my rear left door speaker went silent which im guessing was the speaker amp so i said screw it ill gut it instead of fixing the bose which is pointless.

Make sure someone calibrates your sound system.
An uncalibrated sound system, no matter how expensive can sound awful.

Also, the install shouldn't be too difficult. You COULD give it a shot. Not sure how much Best Buy charges.

Speakers have a 100% profit margin on them. Decks are usually sold at 2-15% margin and amps are usually 10-30% margin. If you know ANYONE that works there, they can get you the materials at ~cost with employee pricing!

With that same train of thought, a lot of employees will resell speakers on local classifieds for much less than retail. Could be a good option too.

Another option is getting that missing Bose speaker off the forums, depending on how bad you want to upgrade vs save 1000$ :P

I got everything I needed off of amazon and took it to my local audio shop. Cost me less than $100 labor, but I had wire and everything.
Saved over $400 buying on Amazon; no complaints.
I had best buy do an install on a in store special they had. Cost me over $400.
Run away from "best" buy IMHO.

Edit: I remember looking on the BB receipt and seeing that it was $30 to just attach each subwoofer too.
If I would have known it was that much for that little of work, I would have brought my own Phillips and saved $100. :-/
