1999 Infiniti I30 CV Shaft replacement

Hi guys,

So I am replacing the passenger side CV shaft assembly and I ran into a bit of a problem.

When I replaced the transmission output seal and put the new cv shaft in, it lines up flush with bracket that has three 12mm bolts. However inspecting the shaft as it is inserted into the transmission I noticed that the small dust cover that is on the end of the shaft that inserts into the tranny is less than half an inch away from the round flap that extends from the seal.

Is this normal? Or should it completely cover the flap of the seal?

I do not understand how the shaft could be inserted into the transmission any further because the middle of the shaft is now flush with the bracket and cannot go in further.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks!

I have an I30 LSD and my raxel was the same way.
I just tapped off the shield after trying other axles and having the same problem.

Running strong for the past 6k..so I say no big deal. As long as you know it's seated properly.

So there was that small gap in between the seal and the little dust cover?

I would have figured maybe transmission fluid would leak from there but I just cant figure out how it can go in any more...

Well thanks for the reply I guess Ill give it a shot later today.
