I recently purchased a 98 I30. It leaked a bit of oil, but, after changing the oil. It seems to have started leaking a little more. Leaving a small puddle of oil everytime. It did not do it when I first changed the oil, but after it was started and driven. I checked the oil sensor and it did have quite a bit of oil all over it and insde the plug. I checked it and it was loose. could this be the cause of the leak? I tightened it a little, but do not know how much to tighten and did not want to break it. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the oil pressure sending unit is probably not leaking. What has a much higher likelihood of leaking is the valve cover gasket. This happens to almost every VQ30 engine. The oil leaks from the valve cover, runs down the engine block and drips off of a bolt head and onto the oil pressure sending unit.

Changing the valve cover gasket is a real pain as you have to remove the upper intake manifold. So if you are not an avid "work on your car" type of guy, take it to a mechanic. It won't be cheap, though.

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping it would be the sensor, but that's just wishful thinking, I guess. I'll just have to replace those darn valve cover gaskets. Not looking forward to it but it's just leaking too much oil. Thanks again.
