Oil changes

So Ive been doing research on my car as far as what oil to use, premium vs regular gas, getting parts fixed, etc.. I found it interesting that the dealers dont do synthetic oil changes for our cars. I called an infiniti dealership and they said yea we do conventional oil changes, but can do synthetic for an extra $60 lol I said ill pass, will get the oil myself and get it done at a garage for half the price. Im guesing they dont want to force people to do synthetic oil changes and want to give them the option of conventional oil changes? Also regular were $40 and synthetic like $110 plus. Talk about making some serious profits.

Instead of taking it to a garage you could also do it yourself if you have a jack and jackstands and a few tools. If you want a good recommendation on an excellent synthetic I'd say go with either amsoil signature series oil and filter or Mobil 1. But generally if your running conventional and switch to synthetic you should stick with the synthetic.

I just bought the car and still have some time before having an oil change. I have no clue what the previous owner was using since i bought it at a used dealership and they didnt have much as far as service history. I might get it done at a local garage but to be on the safe side, I will be going synthetic, got Mobil 1 for sale by my local auto store for $32 for 4.4 quarts and our cars take 4 so I should be good there. As for filter, im gonna go with bosch since theyre decently priced and have good things about them. Just was suprised that the dealerships would do anything other than synthetic oil changes.
All in all I think I can get it all done for $60 after taxes which would be too bad compared to stealership prices of around $120.

That's reasonable. I don't know why the dealership charges so much but i know even local garages can be upwards of $80+ too but your bringing your own oil and filter so a shop shouldn't charge you much. As for conventional you don't save much doing it yourself compared to a garage after all is said and done and you still have to dispose of your oil. I run the amsoil signature series which has a 25,000 mile garantee on their oil and filter. which i just change every 6 monthes on my girlfriends car (ford) and every 4 on my max. which is not winter driven. but i also get my amsoil at cost which helps. good choice with the mobil1 too it's good stuff aswell.

Walmart sells M1 for $25.17 and with coupon codes at AAP, you can get a quality filter for a steal.

Good old "Crappy Tire". I use Castrol and have had an analysis done from Blackstone labs with positive results. Crappy has Castrol Syntec on sale every few months for around $38C for 4.4 liters. I find an oil change takes all of 4 liters which is about 4.5 US quarts. I buy Purolator synthetic filters from Walmart for $9C. I do change intervals @ 8k km, (5k miles). Car has about 120k miles on it and I typically add the remaining .4 liters of oil from the jug @ about 3.5k miles. That does me until the next change. Not too bad IMO.

The urban legend that if using synthetic and therefore needing to stick with synthetic is B.S. and a total myth. If that were the case then what the hell is the synthetic blend all about?

Use what you want when you want and switch if and when you so desire.

One thing I will tell you that is no myth ...

Unless you race; you run a fairly highly modified engine; and/or you run extended drain intervals, you will experience no performance or engine protection advantages in using a synthetic.

Call me a hypocrite. I use Rotella T6 in my car and in my truck. But I don't use it because it's synthetic. I use it because of it's detergent properties and it's optimal concentrations of ZDDP.

Im assuming you mean canadian tire? lol They have Mobil 1 5.4L for $34 with tax at the moment. Better hurry before theyre all outta stock. I grabbed 3 of those, should last me till this promotion runs again. Mine has 72K miles, aure i can run conventional but if i get get synthetic for that much, id go synthetic.

To be honest, its my first car that requires premium gas, sure theres a million posts out there saying regular stuff is fine as well but if you do the math, by the end of the year, you pay like $300 more in premium gas compared to regular, like seriously, is saving $300 really worth putting the car at risk down the line? If it is, then maybe youve got the wrong car. Same thing goes with youre reasoning, some say synthetic, others say, its all gimmick, i mean whose right? I got mobil 1 for the same price of any syn blend so im not complaining. Just grab a bunch when they go dirt cheap and be worry free lol

PS. can you send me a full resolution on your sig pic?

I've found that Pennzoil High Mileage is the way to go with my 97 max and 97 i30. In my opinion, stay away from synthetic blends, and stay away from bosch oil filters...
