98 I30 - R&R clear red plastic trunk-wide "Infiniti" bezel
EDIT: for "bezel" below, read "COMBINATION LAMP ASSY-REAR,CENTER" - this is found under All Part Groups - BODY ELECTRICAL [E ] - REAR COMBINATION LAMP [265] in the Infiniti Replacement Parts catalog (www.grubbsinfinitiparts.com and others)
I searched and looked though the I30 FAQ. I tried to make the subject line as descriptive as possible - I have the factory manual shipping from Faxon now, it might have some answers BUT:
as you stand behind the car and look down at the back end of the car - the red plastic "bezel" (width of the trunk, says "Infiniti" in the center, also carries the trunk tail/brake lights) has separated from the trailing edge of the trunk sheetmetal - the center of the bezel "bulges" out at the center.
This results in water getting behind the plastic bezel and inside the trunk lid - and dripping on your head when you open the trunk and the rainwater escapes from the drain hole at bottom of the trunk lid.
Was there a TSB or something for this? The bezel has been in this condition for quite some time even though the car has never been in an accident.
Are there any tips or advice for fixing this "bulging bezel" issue? I suspect I have to remove the bezel entirely to adjust its overall fit - just cranking down on the cap screws on the back of the trunk lid that hold the center of the bezel in place doesn't sound like a very smart idea re: breaking the plastic bezel.
Thanks!
