Car audio question ..
Hey guys I have question. I am replacing my stock bose headunit with an aftermarket pioneer avh 8400bh. My question is, do I need any special wires/harness ? I keep reading about 70-7550/70-7551 some PAC wires or the speakers will sound like crap ? then I read that you dont need the PAC and 70-7550 will work fine on all, so can any one shed some light ? I have a 2004 I35 with stock HU/speakers and after market amp/sub. Im getting this installed this Saturday.
Thanks

hey just crossed turough your post and though i could help, i have a 00 I30 and went through your same situation, i went with the Scosche OEA4 whixh is basically the same as the PAC something (they basically converts the amplified signal coming from the HU so it could be used by the BOSE amp) this way it sounds great and on top of that the HU RCAs wpuld be left unused for an aftermarket amp and subs in the future. Hope this help.

Get the PAC ROEM-NIS2 as opposed to the 70-7551. I had the 70-7551 and it sounded like crap. You will also need dash kit that you can get for less than $20. If you are handy you will be able to replace the HU yourself in less than 2 hours. While you are at it, replace the clock bulb/HVAC bulbs if they are blown!

Seems like PAC ROEM-NIS2 doesnt even make that item for 2004 I35, their I35 list ends at 2003. Guess I'll see tomorrow if I need it at all.
I already have the dash kit.

Anyway, everything went smooth. Im very happy and it sounds fantastic, glad to get rid of that bose ****. The headunit itself is simply amazing (especially for $470), makes the bose speakers sound 100 times better.

Even the stock bose speakers sound amazing with this headunit, this headunit does magic, couldnt be happier. I will eventually replace all speakers, probably when I blow these.

2 hours includes prep time. The first time you take off the OEM stereo the screws are a PITA. Also, if you solder the wires like I did, I am sure it will take about the same time.

i had problems with my stock headunit in my 99 i30t ad I went to crutchfield.com and they had all the stuff I needed to install a double din radio, it was like 160 for the radio and 10-15 for the adapter, free mounting hardware and harnis. very helpful, and the system sounds ALOT better. one day before this car takes a dump id like to replace the speakers.

Bump...
I just picked up an 02 i35. The stock head unit has been cutting out. I have an alpine double din nav screen I would like to install in it. I think the stock Bose sounds awesome. Don't get me wrong...it doesnt "bump hard" but the quality of bass and overall sound is perfect and way better than any other car stock stereo system.
I would like to keep that quality of sound with the stock sub but also add an Infinity Basslink I have.
I've had the Basslink in my 04 gmc seirra with the Bose. The Bose in that sounded great and with the addition of the Basslink...it was by far one of the best car audio setups I've had that didnt give you a head ache, it still had the stock navi screen! I could turn it up all the way with no distortion and had great quality sound. One of my favorite things to do was sit in my truck after i got home from work and listen to music... I would for at least an hour and a half after I got home. I had a set up when i was 18, 2-12" kicker L5's w/a kicker 800x2 amp that POUNDED. It was just stupid. I feel like that is what everyone is looking for and say that's why Bose sounds horrible... Correct me if I'm wrong...
Can I keep that sound I have now with the stock head unit, after I install the alpine nav screen? My goal is to add the Infinity Basslink I have also. I would love to be able to incorporate the steering wheel controls for sound and stuff.
Thank you everyone for looking and for you input! believe me...it is very very greatly appreciated.
