Are the front turn signal bulbs supposed to be clear or amber in the 96 I30?

1996 I30

NOTE: I posted here instead of the 4th gen forum because the regular Maxima has different, separate, front turn signals in the bumper, that the I30 doesn't have. Since the Maxima's bumper-mounted turn signal has an amber lens, this issue does not apply to them.

One of the front turn signals is intermittent. Occasionally, the front turn signal won't work and the rear will blink fast, but the bulb look good, and the signal works most of the time.

I looked on all the product guides, and it says to use a (clear) 1157 bulb, but when I pulled the old bulb out to look at it, there was an amber bulb! After I pulled the bulb out, I plugged it back in and it worked perfectly.

So my question is, if I install a clear bulb in that socket, will the front turn signals still light up amber, or will they be white?

The turn signal lens is clear, with a small amber section just next to the headlight.

As an aside, I noticed the turn signal lens assembly also has another, very small, bulb close to the headlight that might not be used in US models (remember that the US I30 is the international Maxima). It seemed to be connected/isolated to the amber section of the lens.

In the U.S., the Infiniti i30 uses a clear bulb. The bulb is behind an amber plastic lens.

The laws differ from one country to another, so your question is hard to answer. In the U.S. the front turn signal color does not have to be amber, but most cars are.

Did you look at the bulb in the other side of the car? Maybe that one is clear? If your headlight assembly has an amber lens, using an amber lamp will make the turn signal darker.

Go with an amber bulb on this one since your turn signal lens is clear. That amber piece in there is only a reflector.

Use amber bulb. There's probably some corrosion on the contacts (happened to me). Use a knife or wire brush to clean the contacts and see if that fixes it.
