We always own at least one of the cars we're actively developing parts for, so we can use it to check fitment, performance results, etc. - its basically a parts development platform.
At some point in time (as occurred before with the 1997 Cattmobile I) we run out of development projects for that year of car and we need something newer. I haven't made a final decision on which Nissan we'll be buying as Cattmobile III, but it is time to make that move.
Anyway, that's our motivation, there aren't any problems with the car. I've even put on a new set of Toyo Proxes4 tires, and will be replacing two of the DriftR rims because they got dinged during a storm a few days ago.

A trade's probably not realistic since the third Cattmobile needs to be late model, possibly new, and I'll be spending a lot more than I'm getting from this sale.
Still haven't decided which car it will be. I don't mind driving automatics and CVTs, but since its going to be a test bed, I strongly prefer a manual tranny to dyno properly, so it won't be a new Maxima. I've got no idea how you'd dyno a CVT... has anyone seen this done?
So, the possibilities include:
- 07 or 08 Altima SE/V6 6M sedan (nothing bad, nothing extraordinary)
- 08 Altima SE/V6 6M coupe (great ride, significant road course potential that is begging for some hot suspension parts, but not an ideal family vehicle)
- 06 Maxima SE/6M (hard to find, its the end of a chassis series rather than the beginning, would have to have lo miles)
- 05 or 06 G35 6M sedan (great car, but not sure its the main car we'd want to be making parts for)
What do you guys think?

I guess for the sake of the maxima community it would be nice for a 06 Maxima. However you do make a good point that it is the end of the chassis series. But you still may be able to have a good amount of demand from all the 6th gen owners.
Too bad the next maxima doesn't come until 09.

For CVT's, my guess is to just hold the gear in whichever is closest to 1:1. I believe you can do this on the CVT-equipped Altima, but i'm not sure if the Max offers this feature.
On a different note, i'm incredibly impressed by how much you've stuck by the Maxima community all these years--while others have come and gone. Thank you for that.
Although, i believe for your sake, and to be honest, i'm starting to feel that unless Nissan does something significant to the 09 Model, the 6th gen may very well be the last of the Maxima as we know it to be. Which means, you're probably better off trying your hand on a different model while waiting for the 09 to arrive.
The Altima has quite a bit of potential, and it's marketed to the same enthusiast base as us .Orgers. Although, it would be nice to also see some development for the G's from a tried, time-tested, respectable and reputable company such as yours.
I have to admit though, i'm still yearning for the possibility of squeezing every bit of performance out of my 5.5 gen. You won't believe how many companies i've already approached about mass-producing a good FI kit. It seems that for this gen, even money doesn't really talk much.

Does this mean there will be absolutely no more new CP products for 5th gens?

Nope, doesn't mean that at all, its just that we've already developed the more obvious parts (that we intend to develop ourselves) already. As much as I'd like to, its impossible to own all of the Maxima generations (and now the Altima) we make parts for, so every few years we reset the clock and start with a fresh car that we don't have much of anything for yet.
Its pretty easy to find customer cars for parts development purposes, so we're never restricted to just making new parts for the Cattmobile.
Brian
i think you should stick to the maxima for now. the 4th gens are 10+ yrs old and i know you still sell alot of parts for them. on top of that a lot of 3.5 engine parts seem to be applicable across platforms, but you could continue to develop quality 6th gen chassis/suspension/exhaust parts.
Hey Mike, good to hear from you.
Thanks for the dyno suggestion (and the props!). My thoughts on the future viability of the Maxima as a performance vehicle parrallel yours. We'll see what the '09 is, I've heard the changes will be "dramatic" but I have no idea what that will mean. They might mean it will change dramatically into a wallowing luxury boat, hard to say. I doubt we'll ever see another manual-tranny version.
We've no intent to abandon the Maxima. Whatever form it takes there will be some potential for performance drivetrain and suspension parts, but its clear that the Max cannot remain our only emphasis. If only to simply grow the business a bit, we're also working our way into the Altima market. Whether or not we get serious about the Infiniti sports sedans remains to be seen (though if anyone would like to encourage that direction, we'll happily accept the long-term donation of a M45, M35, or even a G35).
The G35 is so different from the Maxima, I feel like we really would need to own one to become familiar enough to claim any expertise. I'm just not convinced there's enough commercial potential for this to be a wise parts development priority. We don't have enough capital to do everything at once, so we're quite cautious about spreading outselves too thin (investors are welcome). We should probably be bolder about that, but I suspect our conservative approach may help explain why we're still around when so many others have evaporated (along with untold $1000s in customer and supplier monies).
I really like the 08 Altima coupe but have to consider the practical aspects, e.g. a miniscule trunk (only 7.5 cubic feet), which would suck for travelling with a family (in case I ever find time to do that). I'd say the most likely target at this point is an 08 Altima 6M sedan, but ¿quien sabe?

hay brian I called you today about your car. Can you shoot me an e-mail at imadethisjust4you@yahoo.com I will be going to the bank on monday and need to talk to you about pickup of the max thanks matt K
Hey Brian,
Sorry to hear your selling number 2, but it's good to hear your still in the market for another nissan, whether maxima or otherwise.
If theres one thing i must say, your patience is out of this world. I know you talk to a lot of different people so your memory is probably very limited, but there was one night back in late november or early december where we spoke for nearly 2 hours! Your patience paid off and i bought the CP Rear section, Progress springs, and RSB from you. This is beside the point however. Your amount of knowledge and more importantly your willingness to help is a godsend. The most important thing in buisness is your word, and you've been truthful with me from day one. You told me what to expect for my money, and I've been nothing but thrilled with the results. I appreciate all your help and i'm looking forward to grabbing that b and y pipe from you once i get some money. The real reason I wanted to post though is that i have a friend who was looking for a low mileage max to do an FI on. I will let him know about the cattmobile and maybe i can help you out with the sale. He was looking to spend 12 but after i show him the cattmobile he may change his mind.
BUMP for a nice, enthusastic, and mainly honest guy.
There hasn't been a day where I called and Brain hasn't picked up - bet you can't say that about the president and owner of the company you work for.
Thanks for supporting the maxima community and answering all of my dumb questions over the past few years, and get that 6M Altima Coupe!!!! That thing is sweet.
BTW, a recent article in motor trend stated that the 09' maxima will see a facelift and "gearbox" changes. I'm not too sure what that means, but lets not knock the 6 spd option out just yet!

Nice to see you are moving on for development purposes, makes total sense to me. My vote would be for the Altima Sedan 6MT, other than I would assume being several thousands of dollars cheaper than a G35 coupe or G37 I don't see why anyone would want the Altima FWD coupe over a RWD G coupe...
+1
but out of the list, id still go altima coupe because its a brand new production and not much has been released performance wise yet
The sedan has been around with the new body style for nearly a yr now...no?

Thanks for the kind words and advice, you guys. I would lean towards the V6 Altima coupe in terms of style, but the Cattmobiles are also used as family cars and the AltimaC isn't real practical in that regard. I've seen glove compartments that are bigger than that trunk.
Haven't made the decision yet, but I'll probably have to go sedan. OTOH, I'm still a bit tempted to look for a lightly used '06 Max w/6M.
In the meantime, send your friends my way, this should be a great car for the right person. I haven't even tried to sell it locally.

Thanks for the really kind words, they're much appreciated. Yep, that pretty well sums up our business philosophy, and I think it works well for everybody in the end. I do my best to run Cattman the way I wish all businesses are run.
Let us know when you're ready to finish up your all-CP exhaust system, they're sweet when complete. Consider the headers...
Send your buddy our way, this will make a great car for someone.

Not a bad idea, I should advertise it in the Daily Wildcat. The Cattmobile's actually on campus most days, my wife drives it to work and I drive the Titan.
