FS: 1992 SE, 5spd, DOES NOT RUN (Wichita, KS)
HATE to sell it... but two young kids now and no time to work on it...
Overheated and does not run!
1992 SE, 5MT, Leather, Only 127k miles
E36 headlight assemblies installed (no bulbs, and mounting of the assemblies may need a little work, as well as some wiring work)
18" Motegi MR7 rims; tires have less than 5k miles on them, but it's been sitting on them for >1yr.
Some fading/oxidation/wearing on roof and top surface of rear bumper...
Other misc. info: no speakers, still trying to locate spare tire, headunit is a kenwood mp3 cd player, but I don't recall the model , but it's missing the faceplate anyhow (someone stole it, there were things in the trunk they would have stolen too if they only would have been able to find the abnormal location of the trunk release!!!)
Also, I will include a few extras, such as a new water pump, shop manuals (paperback), two window regulators, an A/F guage, and a used performance muffler (can't recall the brand, but it's similiar to this).
I don't know the extent of the engine damage, I just know it won't start. The easiest fix would be if you've got an extra VE sitting around the garage; this would make a nice new home for it!
$950
Buyer must pick up from Wichita, KS!

Please send a message if interested.
p.s. I will not part it out.

Here's the whole story of what happened... I was driving in the early morning and set the cruise control. This is the reason I didn't notice it overheating!!! I was never looking at the gauges, and didn't have my foot on the pedal to feel it start to lose power once it started getting really hot. So the next thing I know, it starts slowing down (cruise still set). I presume it probably kept trying to give it gas to maintain the speed as the power started to decline. I pushed in the clutch (disabling cruise control), but the engine dropped to 0 RPMs. Would not restart, even once it cooled. So in other words, it overheated to the point of something failing (Gaskets, Heads, Block, Warped valves, etc.). No compression in all six, so one (or more) of the previously mentioned problems is likely true. I haven't gotten in there thoroughly, so I don't know the full extent of the damage to see if it's "just" gaskets or warped heads, or if it's much more major like the block or warped valves. The easiest/cheapest fix would probably be to drop in another engine...
Why couldn't they have just put an overheat shutdown and disable the engine when it gets extremely hot, OR, why couldn't they make it chime when it gets hot! Darn cruise control sealed its fate! Arghh....
It has moonroof, does not have ABS. Moonroof worked last I used it, but I didn't use it very often so it's been years since I've used it. Battery is dead right now, but I can try to put a charger on it to check the moonroof if that matters to someone (although it seems like the moonroof would be the least of someone's concerns)... A/C worked GREAT last it ran. I've had it for about 9 years (I think just one owner before me), and I've never had to put any freon in it, so I assume it has no leaks. The "front" three injectors are fairly new (a couple of years old, <10,000 miles on them), but the "rear" three are original I beleive.
Rear power windows need new regulators. I think one of the front ones needs a regulator too. I have two regulators I'll include, but off hand (I'm at work), I don't remember which doors they are for, I think the front? New waterpump is also included (not installed). Water pump belt is broken, it had a slow leak out the weep hole, which is why I had another pump sitting at home... I assume belt breaking is why it overheated. No coolant either, I assume it boiled out? Also, no cat, so "officially", you'd need to get one from a salvage yard before it can be driven on the road. They don't test emissions here (does anywhere still do that?) so I have no idea if it would pass emissions testing even with a cat. A "test pipe" that a friend made is currently installed. Also, it has a very minor oil leak (wasn't even a drop/day), and the clock is "messed up" (it's not the original clock, it's LCD, but just like the original VFD clock this one also has issues).
PRICE LOWERED to $650
Bottom line, it's being sold as-is, where-is. Payment is due at time of pickup. I'm trying to give full disclosure of everything that's wrong with it that I know of. It obviously needs some work, and may have other issues down the road, or even may currently have other problems I don't know about, especially since it's been sitting. But I'm disclosing everything I know! Brakes worked when I was towed (pulled) home, so I assume they still do, but, unless you live within 10 or 20 miles from me, the safest/easiest way to transport it would be to rent one of those trailers from u-haul that you put the front wheels on and tow with a trailer hitch.

Dang, looks like a GREAT project to stick a good VE into. This is just the type of thing I'm usually all over. If I had the money I'd drive straight up there and pick that sucker up. Good luck with the sale!
