The Altima Se-Rs are 6 speed but the regular Altimas are 5 speed. But I believe the 5 gear ratio is better then the 6 gear ratio. If your looking for mostly performance, I'd go with a 5 speed.

I meant it, as in performance. But overall, I'd rather drive a 6 speed. Im looking for Is250 6 speed or G35 6 speed. Upgrading.

The person that said the 5 spd was an option is 100% right I know Maxi's and Altima's up one side and down the next. Altima was the only one that was offered with both the 5 and 6 speed manuals. SER being the only 6 speed option. Maxima was only the 6 speed. I also agree that I would much rather have the 6spd over the 5. Thus I would only want a SER Altima

My cousin has a 3.5 5-spd altima... The OP is correct, the Se-r Altimas come w/ the 6-spd.... But, we have personally done the experience @ the dragstrip against Se-r's.... The 5-spd SE takes the win all day everyday, despite having the open diff

These 5-speed Altima's are actually quicker than the 5.5 gen 6-speed Maxima's.

I own a 02 3.5SE running 175k Miles and going.

BTW 2002-2004 are the only Altimas you can put a downpipe without a check engine light including headers. Headers require O2 Spacers though. 05-06 had an extra O2 sensor by the down pipe and were wide band. These are short band and can be faked.

Whats the maintenance record for this?

A 6th gear would make you run lower RPM's on the highway and reduce engine noise.
