What's wrong with the engine?

You can source a VQ35 for $500-$700 nowadays.

Well my friend isn't confident on if the engine will last seeing as this one from factory didn't last that long...so she might be better off just using a downpayment on a new car..Her job requires travel so...

She was quoted about $1700 in NY. Plus she tells me how people take advantage of women there.

Something doesn't sound right here. She's already been through one engine and is anticipating the second one will go too? Why did the first one 'go'? What EXACTLY is wrong or are symptoms of the current engine?

Are you sure she's maintaining it properly?

useful information about the car....such as: mileage? Is the title clear? Wrecks? Rust on core support or anywhere on the car? An asking price? Location of car? Just any information you would normally provide when selling a car....

I'll ask her and found out. It is mainly because of being hesitant about another Nissan Engine.

a good, lower mileage engine in new england, goes anywhere from 900-1500. Add labor for r&r and total price can easily be $1700 out the door.

I would strongly suggest a low mileage engine or a reman engine. Don't bother buying a cheap 150k mile motor as your are gambling with your money. Nissan definitily dropped the ball for the 2002-2003 vq35 and qr25 engines due to pre cats and piston ring problems with these motors.

Also, see if you can price out a rebuild of your current motor. You might be able to find a reasonable price. Selling the car as is and getting another car is the easiest way out though.

VQ's just dont die unless they have been beat to death and not maintained. sounds like she has either not done maintenance or had an badly maintained VQ installed.
