Save new guy's 20th Aniv Max from wrecker? $1000 takes it
Hi -
I joined here specifically to see if anyone might be interested in saving my car.
It's a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition. My wife and I bought it new. It has nearly 300,000 miles on it, has been a great car, and is still my daily commuter.
Right now it has an on-again/off-again SES light and intermittent idling problems. Besides that, it's in pretty good shape. I've already spent $1600 at the dealer plus registration is coming due soon.
Because of the SES light, it won't pass smog. My one option is to sell it to the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair for $1000. The problem with that is that it will go to Pick and Pull to be stripped and I hate to see that happen to this car because I think it still has a lot of life in it if you have the skill to fix it (which I don't).
If anyone in the Central CA (Sacramento) area wants to match the BAR offer I'd rather see them have it than Pick and Pull. PM me if you need any more information and I'll do my best to provide the info.
Thanks,
b

I think it would be easier to just sell the car to the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair and call it a day. The average joe won't pay $1000.000 for it due to the miles & age of the car.
Can you push for a higher offer of like $1500 from the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair?

Appreciate the input
Kbb. org says it's worth about $3K so I wanted to see if there was any interest before sending it to the wrecker. Understandably, the average Joe probably wouldn't be interested. I think it'd have to be someone who has the skill to repair it themselves.
In a last ditch effort to find a different solution I went to the smog check shop Saturday. The guy said it would pass smog if I wanted to bring it back the next time the SES light blinked off.
BAR only gives $1K, unless you're low income and then you get $1.5K.
I'll be out of town for the next week or so but maybe I'll post a classified when I get back.
