Hi, selling my 1986 Maxima 300zx turbo swap. $1500 obo!

This car has schizophrenia, it thinks it's a 300zx turbo... but it's a front wheel drive!

Has digital dash, leather seats, and super cool radio with graphic equalizer.
Body has 163k miles, VG30ET engine has about 35k as I drove the car about a year after we did the swap.
Engine was imported from Japan by Motorsport and was at 28,000 miles when installed.
ECU is from a 300zx from 1986, and the brown driver floor mat is from a 300zx (Z31). I think that's what triggered the schizophrenia...

Currently automatic transmission, but comes with an OEM MANUAL TRANSMISSION for conversion.
Also comes with ORIGINAL VG30E on engine stand in case the future owner wants to convert it back to original.
Comes with a bunch of extra parts such as new CHTS, new car cover, original ECU, a couple spare wheels,manual transmission...

It has been sitting for a few years now, beside me driving it around the block once it a while.
It is currently running rough at idle, due to a faulty CHTS. I have other projects that have priority and would let it go cheaper if I don't have to replace the CHTS myself.

Note that this set up is illegal in CA, so I was not able to register it (drove it under the radar for a full year). Dash has sun damage driver seat needs reupholstered, and it runs on a set of old tires. SOLD AS IS FOR PARTS, RACING, OR OUT OF STATE.

Sorry, I forgot to add the price when I wrote the ad... $1500 obo. Would you be OK with $1200? The engine only cost me $1000. I'll also fill the trunk with a bunch of parts, and let me know if you want the manual transmission and the original engine (to be rebuilt, but complete).

I dont need the manual transmission or extra engine, I dont have a lot of money atm and shipping from cali to Texas is gonna cost me a pretty penny unless you can bring it down and I can take you back up both ways. Truth be told I need a daily driver that is as reliable as a maxima and that turbo in there is quite nice. Im looking to use this car for a bunch of years and give it some love. Given that I take a trip and go pick it up, how does 800 sound? You can sell the extra engine and transmission over me taking it and selling it and recieve the money from that and cut out the middle man, engine deffo go for 400 and tranny for 150 minimum, thats how much I would be able to make to recoup from paying you that amount and youd get that money either way

 

Thanks for the offer SpaceGuy. Can we do at least $1000 then? The original engine needs rebuilt and won't interest anyone, so it's scrap metal. Same for the tranny, I have no need for it after I give away the Max and I doubt there's much of a 2nd gen crowd left so it's going to the dump if you pass on it. $1000 deal?

Man i got the same problems with selling my 93se..people complain about it needing freaking tires! Get a new car then lol no more pride in doing work on their own smh

You are probably better off listing it on autotrader..i already have 3 interested parties since i did it and the car is likely to sell next week when my title arrives.

 

Thanks for the heads up anaximander. A friend posted it on Grassroots to help out. A few years ago, I had posted it on 24 hours of Lemons' website, as this would be a very cheap albeit sick startup for the race, so it could place you ahead of the game IMO. All the base work is done with custom engine mounts. Someone could add a bigger turbo and focus on performances and esthetics. I am not too familiar with Autotrader, you mean I should post on the paper version? I did not find the website to be very transparent, but I will try. CL now asks money to post cars. Maybe I should try OfferUp? What else is out there?
