I'd be there if it were in chicago.

Rt. 66 is not an easy track to get teched at. Battery relocated to your trunk but no kill switch sticking out your rear bumper? Can't run. Slicks on your car but no open end lug nuts with the lug studs sticking through? Can't run. They are real sticklers for tech there. Also expensive AS HELL (as far as test and tune goes.) Also, being as it is one of the best tracks in the country as far as facilities/prep goes I imagine it'd be prohibitively expensive to rent out. Even test and tune (if it was decided we'd do that) is like $35 to run and they actually give you a punch card that they punch each time you go to run and you are only allowed to make 3 sometimes 4 passes before they tell you you can't run anymore. Basically I only bother to go there for big events. Byron, GLD, or even US41 are much cheaper, less strict about tech, have smaller crowds, etc. Though they are further from Chicago proper...

Autobahn is an OK track. I've been out on it a few times in some fast cars. I'd try blackhawk farms though, probably cheaper than autobahn.

I bet we could get a few TMEC'ers to go to Chicago...whether I'm living in Toronto or Thunder Bay, Chicago is pretty close to drive to so I would definitely do my best to make it down.

frankly, i don't give a care where it's at....i'll make the drive anywhere i have to...I don't mind experiencing new things and seeing new areas. Maybe we should have it on the east coast, considering most of the people complaining about the maxus locations are from there

This year, there were people from all over and did they once complain about the location? no. It's fair to have it in the center of the country so that it won't be a 3000 mile drive for anyone (besides those in canada in alaska )

If it comes down to all of the NE people whining about where maxus 2007 is going to be, then fine...have it on the east coast and i'll see everyone there.

We just need to get the damn place figured out so they have plenty of time to plan it.

This isn't some simple planning for a regional meet...it's Maxus...and it better not be a 1day event.

I wonder if we could pull togheter a MAXUS and SE-R convention into one thing.... The SE-R guys (which have been hosting conventions yearly since like 96) are having the convention in Chicago for 07. Their conventions usually start on Friday night where everyone gheathers up at Embassy Suites (their official SE-R convention hotel) for a little meeting, drinking, talking smack etc. Saturday is usually dyno day, track day etc, evening are usually spent at the hotel drinking and talking Nissan. Sunday is a big picnic at the park where they have food, and car show- with trophys. They also have a raffle with ALOT of nice goodies like- camshafts, wheels, suspension parts, gift certificates, boost controllers, even engines sometimes ! Alot of big manufacturers chip in and give out goodies..... Cool thing is anyone who buys a raffle ticket is automatically in the raffle, so the more you buy the better the chances you have in winning. Monday is usually the day where people leave for home.

I wonder if we could collaborate with them and make this a HUGE event, I will speak with the local SE-R guys to see when they have it planed, where things will happen etc.

I've never been to Maxus, but I've been to the SE-R conventions- and they are a blast.

Check out the review of the event which took place last month...

Are you guys down for something like this ? I can do some of the organizing...

As a side note- there is PLENTY of things to see in the city of Chicago, alot of great clubs, restaurants etc. So for the folks who would bring their significant others- you can go to the city, do some shopping, walking around looking at the city at nite- which is great.

I agree Blackhawk Farms might be a good road course (1.95mi) site. It's great for gatherings and they just repaved last year or so. It's hard to get a summer weekend up there unless you book way in advance though. SCCA and MCSCC alone run like 12 times up there. It's somewhat close to GLD dragstrip.

I've got multiple friends who own and work at the Autobahn track but like it was said, it's private and expensive.
Personally, I would like to see it here as well. I am sick of us being outdone by the national Stratus meets that get held in Elmhurst, IL.

While Route 66 is a good option, there are other challenges that have to be dealt with if we have track events down there. What would have to happen in this case is that we would need a couple of people to do some "scouting" so we can make sure that everything is in close proximity.

If we do it here, I would be willing to help plan it.

I personally I think Byron would be your best bet to set up a track meet. They can have lanes exclusively for Maxima's if there is enough of them. Hopefully next year they don't change their price, but its still $25 to run, unlike GLD its currently $32 to run on a weekend, which it seems like their price to run your car is going up every year. It seems like Blackhawk Farms is the most favorable place to have a autox meet at. There are plenty of places in the Chicagoland area to have the car show. As long as its ok with the local authorities and its near by willing sponsered restaurants. All of these places are no more than 2hrs away from downtown Chicago. Plus it would be awesome to have a cruise from somewhere in the burbs of Chicago to the lake and take some pictures out there. Lots of places to take pictures in Chicago.

i would definitely support a Chicago location for 2007. it really is pretty centrally located. i think it would be best if the track was a smaller, less popular one so that the price wouldn't be so high and it would be easier to get access. but don't sacrifice track quiality for price. i'd rather pay more for a great track than less for one that's all torn up. good luck with the planning, i'm sure all of us at MNMaximas would be there. they have already perked their ears up at the mention of Chicago.

yea, don't know if there's much i can do, but let me know and i'll try to help. at least i'll spread the word and get interest. even though it is a year down the road, getting people talking about this as much as we can will really help the turnout.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but do we have a swap meet and manufacturers midway there too?

This could play into 1 intereting piece: the track day. If we rent a road course for a day, having more people will reduce the cost to everyone. On the other hand, I don't want to be hanging out with SE-Rs all weekend.

Loren's got a good point.
This is about Maximas, not SE-Rs. the Z Club has their national convention, SE-R guys have theirs.. Maxus is ours. tagging along and biting at the SE-R guys heels is not something I want to do. we're big enough to have our own- people just have to put a bit more effort into showing up, rather than backing out at the last second. these events are planned months (actually YEARS) in advance for these large clubs... so when people back out at the last second, it makes the rest of us look like idjits.
...beside the point though....

.org and the Maxima cummunity in general is big enough to host our own annual event. we have THOUSANDS of members all over the country, just like the SE-R and Z guys. they're cool and all, but I don't want to be the fat sister that asked to tag along to their party.

If we are going to share anything, it would only be the track day in order to keep the costs down for us-- but they also generally fill up their track event roster and don't have room for more people. Basically, I wouldn't want to try to hang with them and crash their party...

good point. i could see inviting them just for the track to keep prices down, but then how many to invite? where does it stop? SE-Rs? Zs? if enough Maxima owner interest is found, it shouldn't be a problem. besides, i'd much rather run a track with all Maximas rather than get lapped constantly by Zs.

If we do have track days in the Maxus schedule, both drag and autox, it would be nice to have the drag event on a Friday night at GLD, and autox event on a Saturday at Blackhawk. And then the carshow on Sunday. From where I live I about equal distances from both venues. Just under 2 hours from both locations. Plus the people that are going to both events, im gonna be pretty sure their car is going to be already setup to do both. But this is a suggestion of how close the two venues are. Plus within a 20mile radius there is abundance of hotels and motels, plus my mom might be able to give discounts for the Marriot and Hampton Inn, thats if she still works for them from a year from now.

I don't think an auto-x will be in the list. That means setting up a course with cones, timers, workers and little driving time. Road course is just get there and driver with nothing to setup. Faster/funner speeds and much greater driving time.

Road course would require similar prep. Track folk, safety stewards, tech, changing of brake pads, etc. But I agree an auto-x would provide little seat time for most and that's already available to nearly everybody today. That said IF there was a local auto-x already scheduled during Maxus, I'd be happy to field a group over there concurrently.

Vette show in town - lots of ideas

The Vette community has just taken over our area for the next three days. I'm not familar with the SE-R or other Nissan events but this has gotta be the holy grail of car meets.

Soooo...what's the status on this? Anyone in Chicago or anywhere else taking the proverbial Maxus torch and getting started on planning?

This isn't something you want to wait 6mos prior to happening.

Who's going to be the front-man?

I'd like to take charge, but i work to much to spend half of my schedule setting up dates and such, but what do I know, I could just be spending 10 mins of my time a day figuring out stuff, since I really don't have much experience on setting up and event like this. But I'm thinking instead of having a one man crew setting up the event, half a whole bunch of people from the Chicago area set it up. One will set up a day for autox/roadcourse, one will set up a day for the dragracing event, one will help setup for carshow/get together event, and another will help setup locations for people to stay at.

That would most likely work the best...just don't wait till '07 to find out who the people are that are setting things up.

Seriously, Matt was setting things up for Maxus '06 a couple of weeks after Maxus '05. He was rather busy in between the 2 events too.

I guess I'll take charge, but I will try to find people to help me along....connections to sorts of things, locations, hotels, places to get trophies etc. Some of the Maxus 07 talk will be on www.chicagomaximaclub.net and the Upper Midwest forums. I will try to get a ball park on dates for Maxus 07. Soon

So, how will it be decided who gets to lead Maxus? I mean, we have the MD guys throwing their stuff in, Chicago is stepping up too. I would love to get in on Maxus for next year, and I know it's still early....but what's the deal?

Personally speaking, and not that my opinion on location should matter to most people, but if I were to attend Maxus, or any other meet, I'd definately want to drive my car there. Among other reasons, that's why Texas based Maxus was out of the question for me, and I'll assume numerous others as well.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this...it's pretty damn late. But I do want to get in for the reveal of RedlineMax's plans.

Now you need to decide on a date. I recommend end of May begining of June. Since school is out by then and we want to have as many show up as possible.

Well its seemed like no one was gonna take charge on leading the next Maxus, and even tho its next year, times being wasted for every day we don't choose a day and location. So it was presumed by some of the people that posted here wanted it in Chicago. I will try to figure out a date on when its best to have Maxus. I don't want it to fall on big important weekends. EX: 4th of July weekend, Father's day weekend, HIN weekend, Forumula D, Nopi...etc. All those date are pretty close to each other especially HIN, and Forumla D. But as of right now my guess for Maxus is mid to late June. I want to have it when kids are getting out of school, and just before some go back for summer school.

Well, lookie, lookie here. Good Job Xander. I shall definately help. I know you're busy, so I can be your co-pilot if you like. GLD would be fine for Friday, although I rather run at Byron. BBQ location I think will be the least of our problems. Trying to get some of the out of towners rooms at hotels/motels is probbaly our biggest issue.

as far as hotels, we need to start gauging interest of who can come. figure out a good estimate of people, call hotels, tell them that you want a deal for bringing that many people in over a weekend. it should be a clean place, but nothing special. we'll just be sleeping there so no sense having to drop a lot of $$ for it.

My mom works for the Hampton Inn and the Mariot, hopefully by next year she will be still working for them so maybe I could get a really good deal for you guys. But that won't be necessarily cheaper than some other hotels in the area. But I will ask around for you guys.

Xander, if Wyndham (sp ?) off Throrndale and I290 in Itasca is a VERY nice hotel, I've stayed there for Xmas parties from work and they do not charge all that much. I think we could get a deal going through there. If not there are alot of other nice hotels in this area like Hyatt or Marriot around Woodfield area.

Trust me guys, the area we are talking about has no ghettos around it for miles.... unless ya drive out to Streamwood or something like that. Our Maximas will be like econoboxes when parked at some of these hotels... no worries.
