MAXUS 2010 in NYC!!
DanNY, I don't think you have to do all the defending. Guys, it is what it is. Get over it. Could it have been better? Sure, it can always be better. I personally had a great time. Sure, I would have loved to see more maximas. Especially with all these left over maxus10 decals
No matter what though, I heavily enjoyed myself. The food may not have been great, but I gotta say that PB&J sandwich was yummy! Fail to the judging group. I know you guys tried, but you really should have been more organized. Holding up a scribbled up piece of paper saying, "these are our notes on who won"...BAD IDEA!!! You really should have prepped up a chart or something so there was no confusion. I can clearly understand why people are pissed about that. I didn't come down looking for trophies though. I came to have fun and I did. The hotel party saturday night was great, and so wasn't our trip to Whitecastle! With that, all I have left is NEMOD.org FTW!!!!

IMO, it's more of a case that a few issues are getting people really upset about an event that was otherwise good.
1. Track food. No comment, I brought my own.
2. Judging. No excuse, it was very disorganized. Class categorization was really bad, and the awards ceremony was just embarrassing. You'd think that with two hours to tabulate the results from maybe 30 cars, they wouldn't have to take back a trophy from someone.
3. Cost. High, not ridiculously high though. It was $40 versus $30 for last year (1 person entrance plus show), although I think racing was more expensive last year.
4. The low turnout. This was the biggest disappointment. At the BBQ during Maxus09, I had a conversation with Aaron92SE about the NYC crew. He had hoped that Maryland would be close enough for a high NYC turnout, and there was a decent amount of NYC maximas, but not as many as he expected. It was my understanding that a big part of the reason for the move to NJ was to get all of the NYC cars out and break 200 or even 250 cars. I don't know what happened. As I posted yesterday, I thought some of the issue might have been that it was at a track some 50-60 miles away from NYC. For someone who isn't planning on racing, that's a time commitment and an expense. Granted, I drove some 150 miles each way for Maxus (~90-100 miles to Rutherford, ~50-60 to the hotel), and I drove a lot farther than that for Maxus 09 (don't remember exact numbers). I don't know if the best approach is to leave the track event out in the boondocks and try to move the show closer to NYC, or if the elusive 'hundreds' of Maximas in NYC can just be ignored if they're not willing to drive. For Maxus09 and Maxus10, it seemed like the people who were willing to drive were willing to drive hundreds of miles, and the people that didn't want to drive refused to. The Maryland/DCmax guys were willing to drive, and I'd bet that most of them would follow Maxus anywhere in the Northeast. The NYC guys weren't willing to drive to MD, so the powers that be put it right on their doorstep in NJ, and they still weren't willing to come out. Granted, I'm not talking about all of them, because there was a decent turnout, but not an amazing turnout, and many of the NY cars I saw this year also were at Maxus last year.
The cars that were there were nice. The people there were nice. The racing was impressive, although there didn't seem to be as many cars running as last year, and there wasn't the exciting battle between Jime and Aaron92SE that stretched across several classes and rounds.
Most of the people I talked to seemed like they were having fun. What happened, though, was that the event ended on a down note. People left thinking about the long drive to the hotel and the very lame awards ceremony, and not thinking about the positive aspects of the event, and then jumped on the bandwagon.
All of the people who posted "Well, good thing I bailed at the last minute and didn't go, if it sucked" - a big part of why it was disappointing was because of the people who were close, and could have gone, but didn't want to. 125 cars was nice, and it would have been one hell of a parking lot or BBQ meet, but for a big track meet it was disappointing. 200 cars or even 250 cars like they were estimating, and it would have been such an impressive event that the negative aspects would be completely overlooked.
i dont see how that made maxus disappointing
Im with SLC, vote NASHVILLE. The drag strip http://www.musiccityraceway.com/, or as the locals call it Union Hill, would be a good place. Lots of room, could easily have a show there as well.
another option, which would be great, is to talk with import alliance about having Maxus2011 with their event at nashville superspeedway. They also usually hold some type of event on the track, but prices are usually high at around $140 to get on the track. Its only $10 to get in though. Im sure that an area could be set aside for Maxus. I believe Import Alliance/Maxus 2011 would be awesome. If you would like to contact them I can give you a phone number to one of the guys thats in charge

I would mostly agree with you.

judging- idk (but didnt make maxus disappointing)
track food- is bad everywhere you go (didnt make maxus disappointing and thats not to be blamed on maxus)
track pricing (not to be blamed on maxus)
again, im trying to find a reason why all the complains
im moreso disappointed in the guys that work at the track vs the maxus planners, we rented a track and they had friends running on it, the rules were extremely strict for a 1 star track... MIR (maryland int. raceway) was very laid back and cared more about everybody having a great time vs collecting $$$... all that extensive paperwork to track and showing ID and social securtiy crap was retarded, but again that is not to be blamed on maxus
EDIT: the cermony session was funny to me, i liked all the small yelling from the croud, and judges getting it wrong and small jokes... i just took the positive from out of it unlike most of the up tight croud... there shouldve been a highest number dyno for N/A though, unfair to categorize us NA with FI

you want it in TN? YOU MAKE THE CALL OUT. YOU FIND OUT HOW MUCH IS IT TO RENT. stop passing the buck...nothing gets done like that.
I just wanted to drop in to say that anyone who is *****ing about $35 for unlimited runs on the track should really reconsider budgeting some damn money around...Try going to E-Town and getting 20+ runs in before sunset...I guarantee you will not see the tree more than 4 times. I did have 1 minor complaint, i had to drive back and forth between helmet rental, tech inspection and the front gate until someone (i believe it was cory, thanks dude!) finally got in touch with someone to get me a wristband so i could get a helmet. Another thing, i heard some people were charged per vehicle while others were charged for occupancy. For instance, someone who shall remain nameless was forced to pay $35 to track his car plus $20 for his guest (same car)
I really don't think Danny should have to defend himself for ANYTHING. If you know who Danny was, he was the one doing tech inspections all morning, and then organizing the races on the blacktop during the afternoon. I haven't heard one person ***** about an incorrect class or not being able to run who they wanted or when they wanted, so i think this disappointment should be directed elsewhere.
On a side note, did anyone see that black Legacy over there? that **** was soooo sick!! lmao

Buyers beware, local pick up recommended. Slow to ship out items already paid for.

actually after the traffic ended on the way home and we could go fast again i had fun trying to catch up with the group while my car had a broken shifter bracket still. I don't drive fast normally and i didnt even race the car i had my friend do that. i think next year i will tho cuz i could keep up with some awesome drivers.

seeing as though everybody mods their cars and the only people who runs em is DC max and a select few of NY maxima (TUKO, the burgundy, the stock sterling 6spd, and the teal maxima "legit to who knows him") a track event where DCmax is not willing to drive to will be utmost lame, but go for it

You shoulda introduced yourself. Im not familiar with you car or else i woulda said hello. I introduced myself to Jaypee since I knew what his car looked like and saw him do a 13.0x his first run. he's a cool dude. let me borrow his wrench to get my rims on. Im down to drive to you guys and have another track day for some fun (especially after being 1 of 2 or 3 NY 3.5s to run). Just need to fix my control arm and motor mounts. they were bad before but after 10 runs on the track they are toasted
.Jason: that pic is is sick I just wish there was more pics of my ride. I only seen 2 pics
.
Thanks bro! Im in love with the drop too but it too low for NY streets. Im also loving the rims. hopefully I get some beans together and buy em off my friend.

People who actually attend a meet make a meet succeed or fail. The track day & show was a good idea. There are just too many people who wanted to show instead of show off how their car can go. What is the point of building a car to go and not doing so?!?! Was the lure of a trophy worth not enjoying driving your car and racing all takers? All of the people who raced had a great time doing so (not counting the broken parts hahaha). I would have loved to see all those good looking, cleanly built, fast cars on the track beating some azz.
I didn't have any issues with the other track-friends doing a few runs. I actually liked watching the 10 second cars. I think the people complaining about who was on the track are the people who weren't racing anyway. These guys ran when there was a lull in the Maxs running. I had 9 runs (a run about every 30 mins) and sure I could have had 30 runs if I wanted to blow up my car.
The people who were racing all day weren't chomping at the bit to run non-stop and I would bet didn't have one complaint about the couple of others taking a few runs. One thing that would have helped with the caravans would have been pre-planned routes. Everyone should have known the routes to take in case the group got split up. (reference: sunday) It is WAY too dangerous to try to keep a large group together by attempting to wait on the side of the road when toll booths or traffic lights split up a large group or to roll down the road at 20 mph in a 50 zone; taking up the two left lanes is asinine.

Honestly, I think we need to take an org-wide vote. Would more members attend Maxus if we had a strip, or if we had a road course/parking lot space for autocross? And at what cost?
The only reason I think Nashville's not a bad idea is that it's pretty central to Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina and the surrounding states where it seems like a lot of org members are located. When it comes down to travel, I'd say it's pretty close to the same distance from each major city in each surrounding state to Nashville.
I work at a car rental shop here, btw. If you need a car to run Greeny's truck in, let me know.

I honestly vote not during IA. Mainly because there will be so many other kinds of cars running around, wanting in to see what we're doing. And I doubt we'll get any track time, what with the qualifying and the actual racing going on during the event. I'd also rather not sit there and listen to all the Honda fanboys that show up at IA trash-talk us all day because, "Honda's the best."

Dan, I'll start looking around if we can get enough of a following from other members. I'd like to see some interest before I start trying to call around and organize any sort of meet, though...what do you think the best plan of action is? Feeler thread? Or do you think it's too soon?

how about nashville superspeedway?
They have a small road course built into the middle of the track..might be pricey to rent though..

Brent, ive called The Hill and talked to Rick. He said that renting a saturday is a no-go as they have NHRA points races on saturday. So in order to rent the track it would be a VERY hefty bill. Beach Bend would likely be cheaper, but I am sure they run NHRA races on saturday as well. Was supposed to go talk to one of the guys that runs it tonight, but he had to take an emergency flight to Vegas for work
NYC is a fail. The event was so close to NYC and still everyone did not come out. The idea of having another Maxus near NYC should be thrown out. Not worth it in my opinion. I drove out to Maryland for last year's Maxus and drove to NJ for this year. Organizers did their best and the reason why the event was as great as it was hyped up to be was because of the turnout and some disorganization from the staff.
