Thanks for that link J.

20's look terrible on a better part of the maxima's in that link . . . I'll stick with the 18's or 19's

That's decent maxi, but it takes away from the sportieness big time IMO.

The only Max I've *really* seen and liked was a lowered black max it 19' ADR's and J-Smith's with the 20's and coilovers.

Bit to much metal showing w/20's, but that's just my opinion.

edit: Ok you're car is on my *frikin hot* car list maxi, the rest of those pics give a better picture. You're car looks frikin awsome. I like the way you stuck with the 5 spoke layout.

One question Maxi, how's the ride quality on those Eibachs compared to stock? ? ?

I told a friend I was going to lower the car with springs and he warned me of ride quality being reduced. Do I have anything to worry about?

I got the Eibach Pro Series rolling on 20's and my ride quality feels fine. Of course the ride quality will feel "harder" since the low pros and 20's.

I agree with Tek. This car is big and has an ever bigger wheel well. Its 20" and up to make the upgrade worth it.

I'm with you there. I think 18's or 19's look great on this car. Beyond that is going to take some getting used to for me!

I get the idea though, low profile has less side-wall flex and roll for better cornering. Above 20", to me, they start to look like wagon wheels with a thin rubber strip. It's a point where fashion is taking over purpose.

they don't look like wagon wheels, is not like putting 20s on a civic, now the rims would look like they don't belong.

but on this car it takes them well, and almost looks like it should come with rims that big. I love the big wheels..

Al the pics of the cars with posted rolling on 20's look really good with them. They fit the 6th gen really well. A lot of cars cannot pull it off, but they fit the max very well.

right...and I would hate to see this car on some 18 inch rims dropped lookin like a lowrider...older maximas can pull it off...but its a big car and i would say 20-22's...

Gonna be a tough choice . . . . , 19" ADR's look pretty damn good on a black on black max.

My issue. I've got an 02' Jag X-Type on 18" ADR's ~> http://www.pics.bbzzdd.com/users/BDog231/JagSide.jpg Copy and past this link into IE to see the pic.

The ride quality sucks if the road is crappy and I bent the life out of the right front rim on a pot hole which in the end was repairable, but expensive.

Can I avoid this happening with the max on 20's??? What size tire would I need to keep the rims from getting bent to sh*t??? Bay Area Ca, I'm in Oakland, San Jose a *lot* and the roads are absolutely terrible.

I wore down the break disk's QUICK with the added weight of the new rims, will that be an issue's w/20's as well?

this thread might answer my questions

hey guys

i'm a 6th gen owner that's looking to upgrade the wheels on his ride

i want to upgrade my ride to 20's
the only thing im worried about is it affecting the ride of the car, i mean, whats the point on getting a sweet car like a maxima and not having somewhat decent performance

someone help set the record straight and tell me the pro's and cons

i want to get the ride as close to stock as possible

thanks in advance as this is driving me CRAZZZZZZZZZZZZY

you will loose ride quality as you drop in tire size, and if you get lowering springs or so. there is no way around it unless you keep a big tire on it wich will look like crap on 20's and prob won't fit.

if you keep your current stock springs and put 20's on it the ride shouldn't be too much effected, but you prob will feel the bumps alittle more. road noice will also increase some..

the more you do to the suspension the worse those problems get... but even on my set up is not bad, you can't get real bad I think.. just 20's will be allright..

first of all, thanks for answering my questions tek

but unfortunately i have more questions

your saying that if i don't change the springs, i won't be effected as much as if i did? what are the benefits of using them ? is it only to keep the body of your car lower to the ground? i don't know if i would want to do that. some roads in NYC are horrible.

i just want to be sure that i'm making the right decision because it's a pretty large investment

any additional info is appreciated
thanks

oh and btw-your ride is f@%#! hot

Springs lower the cars center of gravity, and increase handling.
Depending on the spring and just how low they are will determine there ride.
Springs that lower the car greatly will cause a harsher ride due to less spring travel. Springs that lower the car greatly have smaller gaps in between each coil and are a lot stiffer.
The lower profile tires are going to also affect the ride. The smaller the tire the more of the road you are going to feel since your riding on less rubber.
A large wheel like a 20" and you may not have too many options on tire size, basiclly whatever will fit without rubbing.

thanks flav. that sounded so simple. i can't believe i never realized that.
i've never rode in a car that had such a small gap between the wheel and the tire. i don't know if i would enjoy the ride.

springs........if it affects the handling i guess i would have to put it in, even if i don't want to. i guess i see now why everyone doesn't want to customize their car. that sux.

any other info you can give me on this topic would be awesome man
thx

When I had Eibachs and 20's, I thought the ride was still super good.Yes more road noise and a bit stiffer, but very acceptable. Sorry but if you do go with 20's and don't lower it, the gap will be nasty up front!!
I'd hook up with another local Max (isn't there a meet coming up?) and take a test drive to feel different setups...

now i'm hearing all kinda things like road noise and stuff
i don't want the interior to be so loud that i have to have the radio on to not notice it

i love the look of these rims i want but if its gonna make me have a ****ty performing car, i woulda bough an altima and then hooked that up instead, that way i wouldn't care about screwing up the quality of the ride

so lemme see if i got this right

rims + tires = hot lookin ride
rims + tires = - performance (bad shocks, increased road noise)

damnit
is there anything else i'm missing
?

Rims and tires wont kill your shocks, lowering springs on OEM shocks will though.
Rims and a good set of tires will increase handling, more so with a good suspension setup, springs & shocks, or coilovers.

so in order to get the ride to feel more like stock, i would have to alter all of those things????

how do i alter the suspension, by buying good springs like that eibach kit?

the lower you go for springs, and the smaller you go for tire size...... the worse the road noise gets..

I have coils, and the springs are very small, so I get that bounce sometimes cause it rebounds real quick. but I love the handling of the car..

if you don't wanna risk to much, get springs. I've read from other members is just like stock but a more firmer ride..

I did the brakes, wheels, coils, swaybar...

once you get the wheels, you will hate the gap, so you will drop it..lol... list goes on..
