Re-Tinted Tails
Well as some of you knew I attempted to tint my tails a while back and it came out terrible. Well I cleaned them off and went back to the drawing board. Took my time and wet sanded between all coats then polished when I finished the clearcoating. Needless to say I think they came out great this time. What do you guys think.

I think they look good but im opinion i wont do it because i dont think that our brake lights are that bright to begin with plus if your back window is tinted limo dark like mine then the third brake light is not that bright aswell and living here in south florida i want every grandmother to see when im stopping and not plow into the back of me but i give it a thumbs up keep up the good work

My tails are hazing badly. I have tried to save them but now Im not sure what to do. I didnt use Nightshade. Maybe thats what I need. I may do that or look into tint film. Urs looks great, how bout more pics?

I'm not sold on it. It can be seen where you sanded and then the lense looks dull. If you look at idnumber1's taillight, I like how they 'pop out' with the color and the OEM finish. The covers by bluebat looked good but again still not my style, plus they seem easier to apply and can be reversed if you decide you don't want the tint anymore.

I tinted my tails using model tint last year. It had faded over time and basically looks like **** now. I tried to fix it but its worse. I got tint overlays from Blue Bat but I cant find anyone to put it on. I finally gave in and am having them professionally spray tinted at a local body shop. The car is there right now getting done. I told them I want it very dark but not jet black. Just so a little bit of red shows. Ill let you know how it turns out later today.

ok here is the scoop..... I like the tint by the way.... I did the same thing on my onyx max.... I used VHT nightshade that I purchased from westbay auto for $9, and put about 6 coats..... to accent my car the best..... I think having a red car using 4 was a great choice.... here is how I did it..... first I masked off the outside of the lens with masking tape..... and in my case I masked over the reverse light.... and used an exacto knife to cut the circle shape... then leave the masking over the circle and remove the outside... then I used alcohol to clean the lenses completely..... then I dry sanded the numbers down.... not too much to even touch the surface of the lens, just the numbers.... then I wet sanded with very very fine sandpaper.... then cleaned them off again with alcohol <--- rubbing alcohol.... no abusing here... then I sprayed with VHT nightshade... light coats and in between coats used a hairdrier to speed up the drying process.... after the sixth coat and drying was complete I cleaned them off with windex.... let them dry.... then clear coat two layers with acrylon or something like that from walmart.... $4 a can.... make sure if you use clear coat you shake the can alot.... if you spatter clean nozzle.... this stuff needs to be put on very lightly or you will run.... remember the clearcoat hides imperfections..... so this is the most delicate step..... after the clear coat dries you can install them..... do not scratch them within the first 24 hours because if you do it will be permanent...... I recommend using a hardener wax like plastix made from meguires.... that stuff is remarkable and I recommend for all headlights and tail lights.... removes yellow and scratches and any dulling that the light has......

I placed a small piece of window tint over the reverse light, then got mine professionally spray tinted,... and they came out great, and now 6+ months later they still look great.
