'99 KH3 A32 SE {Warehouse and Airport Photos}

These photos were taken with a 3.1 MP Kodak digital camera from circa 2001. Still takes great photos in daylight; never took good low-light photos though. I have adjusted the saturation and contrast with Photoshop.

I will probably never buy another black car because they show every imperfection and every speck of dirt, but I spent over three hours washing, polishing, and waxing it yesterday and took some photos to make it worth it...because it will be dirty again in a few days.

The rust on the rotor in the first photo is because the pad was misinstalled for a while so it wore down the inside edge only until I fixed it. Just gonna have to wait for the pad to wear down to get rid of the rust. And I've had my foglights out for over a year now. Trying to find time to finish the Lexus yellow capsule retrofit.

TEIN High-Techs ("H-Techs") with Illuminas. The lighter weight of the manual tranny makes the front wheel gap a little bigger than I'd like aesthetically.

Thanks everyone. Yes, if you saw it in person you would notice the gouges in the rear bumper from other cars' front license plate bolts (I think the previous owner parked it on Chicago streets regularly), but that's nothing compared to the sorry state of the front bumper. Besides being cracked and gouged, it has chips and scuffs all over it. I just don't have money to buy new bumpers and paint them too, that alone would probably cost me a grand, which seems ridiculous given what else I could buy with it. One day I will do it.

Even after hours of wetsanding and polishing I'm still not happy with the headlights. The driver side one is hazier than it should be so I guess I just have to try again.

The exhaust is Greddy SP2 for the 95-96 Maxima. I don't know how big the tip is but it looks maybe 3.5 inches? It fits the bumper notch perfectly.

nart86, the tires are 235/45 which is sort of skinny for an 8-inch rim, but I like the look. Or were you joking?

After I posted this afternoon, I took a drive and a car filled with HS-age kids pulled up beside me at a stoplight. Hot but beautiful evening so I had the windows down. The driver was a cuteish girl and she KEPT LOOKING at me and my car...like super obvious looking non stop. I had to laugh, but it was also flattering. It's been a long time since I've gotten looks like that, maybe I should wash my car more often, and do the tanned unshaven look more often too, LOL.

Hmm.. 235s are pretty decently wide for a Max but they do look really skinny in some of the shots. I think it's just because your rolling diameter is significantly greater than normal, so the "aspect ratio" of your wheel/tire looking at it straight on (width/height) is less than if you had some 235/40-17s or something.

And it's strange, it almost seems like I get more "looks" when I drive my mom's '99 white QX4 than my max...

I agree, black sucks to keep clean. But it looks great when clean. I like that plate cover. Especially in the 1st pic.

Yeah, the plate cover is just a $5 smoked plastic cover but when it's clean it looks really nice.

You're right, the tires do look really skinny in some of these shots, I don't know why. Maybe just because I don't have a big drop, or because of the pattern of the tires. Also, I have 15mm spacers in the rear which pushes the wheels out but I don't think that would make the tires themselves look skinnier.

Haha, thanks a lot Cale. I'm so busy these days that I just didn't have time to wash it before the cruise, although if I'd been able to drag myself out of bed 15 minutes earlier I could have at least found a cheap car wash place....

You're coming all the way back to Wisconsin so soon? You must really your home state.

No the body panels are in mediocre shape. I have tons of chips and scratches all over the car and if you could look closely you'd agree that I need a paint job. It also has a few dings that have mysteriously appeared, and also a dent in the right quarter panel that was never fully fixed.

Thanks again for the compliments, everyone! When the car is this clean, I definitely get lots of looks and no one notices any of that, so I think, why spend $3 thou on a paint job? It's a testament to the power of good polish and wax that the car looks so good despite all its flaws.

Nope, they are 17s but they sure look like 18s, don't they? The farther away you get from the car, the bigger the rims look (take a look at my avatar photo at left....the rims look monstrous). I have all the benefits of 17s (cheaper and lighter rims, cheaper and lighter tires, better ride, less risk of bending rims) and all the looks of 18s. 19s with a lip look smaller than these rims. IMO the best-looking rims are like these Evos: no lip, bold 5-spoke pattern (fewer spokes means more open space and that makes them appear larger I think), and a good offset to put them flush with the body.

The tires are Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s, the second highest performance summer tire they make. They are decent and a good deal but nothing spectacular.

I don't drive much, but hopefully we'll see each other driving around town someday.

BTW, check out the Madison thread, which is also the longest thread on the Org.

Yeah for sure; these were hurried pics because I had somewhere to be and I was surprised at how well they turned out. The title brought you in though, didn't it?
