I30 on FX 20's and more
it all boils down to standard of living in any state. in NY there's two extremes, the city and long island.
the city : u better make 50k a yr (after taxes) or have a couple of roomates.
LI: u and an partner better make 50k a yr because if not the house but the property tax is gonna get ya!!!
you need a second job or sum type of hustle to live good in NY.
(unless u bust ur butt in school n have a great paying job)

if you live in a higher income per capita neighborhood than i do(meaning you bring home more cheddar than i do), and the cost of your house is the same as mine(and it is, because i bought mike for 212 and it's about 320 now, 2.5 yrs later), then your cost of living is lower than mine, because you make more and spend the same. make sense.i think you and i are in the same boat.i dont know what you make, i dont think it's anyone's business, but going off avg's then you're better off. plus my property taxes just went up 2 grand this year, making it close to 6 grand for a 60x90 2 bedroom ranch with no garage and no basement.
i live 1.5 to 2 hrs away from nyc, which is where the money is, just like DC. the closer you live to the big city, the more it'll cost to live there and the more you'll make.

I'm about 15 miles outside of D.C. (1+ hour during commute times).
Not trying to compare incomes or anything, just saying that there is alot of condo and apartment living around here also because of the price of real estate. My good buddy owns a $250K 1-bedroom condo in Reston (about 25-30 miles outside of DC)...and had to pay $15K each for his two parking spots in the underground garage

NY/DC/Boston/LA/San Diego....all pricey near the metro areas, no question!
